How and when will guests get their door codes?
We'll share the code and lock instructions in their Airbnb account once their booking is confirmed. We’ll also send this info in their confirmation email and reminder email 48 hours before their trip. Plus, we’ll send them a push notification the day of check-in.
Can I customize guests’ codes?
No—codes are randomly generated instead of using a guest’s personal info (for example, their phone number) in their code.
What if something goes wrong with my smart lock?
We’ll notify you if there are issues that might impact guests. If your lock goes offline and you get a last-minute booking, we’ll send your guest a backup code which works even without Wi-Fi. Backup codes will be removed after the trip, once you reconnect your lock. Learn more about backup codes
Is there a grace period so guests don’t get locked out?
Yes, there’s a 30-minute buffer after checkout before door codes are removed. This is the default—you can adjust this in your check-in settings. Guests won’t be shown the extra time.
What data from my smart lock account is shared with Airbnb?
We may collect and temporarily store limited information, such as device status and usage (for example, when the device is unlocked). We do not sell or share this information to third parties for advertising purposes. Learn more in our Privacy Policy.
