Mit fogsz csinálni?
We will walk in the footsteps of Anne Frank and learn about the World War 2 stories, events and motives from a Jewish, Dutch and German perspective. I will take you to the places Anne Frank lived, played and went to school before going into hiding, places that look today almost exactly like it was in her time. And by following her footsteps, we will learn about many more people, places and events to tell the story of the German occupation of the Netherlands during World War 2. In a 4 hour walking tour you will visit significant sites in Amsterdam during World War 2 from a Dutch, Jewish and German perspective. You will be looking at original photographs while standing at the very spot they were taken, finding out about the stories behind the pictures. The sites we visit will form the background to the wider stories about what happened, the why and the how, and how it fits in with the larger developments and history of Nazi Germany. During the tour we will visit both the well known parts of Amsterdam and places were tourists usually don't come, but are very interesting indeed. And along the way we will take a canal boat ride to get us from one place to the next. We will find out about the motives of the people involved, and we will ultimately ask the question: Could this happen again in our time?
I was born in Amsterdam in one of the old Jewish neighbourhoods during the war. As a child I was always fascinated by the stories of my parents who were 3 years older than Anne Frank and lived only a short 10 minutes walk away from her. They had their own stories to tell. I studied history specializing in WW2. That interest continued for all my life, if I wasn't travelling around the world discovering places, meeting people and listening to their stories. As an experienced presenter and passionate about sharing the experiences of normal people as they really happened, Martin will bring closer the events of those years, and will challenge you to think about how the past relates to our present and future.
I will share original WW2 photo's on location on your Smartphone via WhatsApp (free) and local WIFI (free as well)
