Mit fogunk csinálni?

Breath, let go, and allow yourself to renew in this 2,500 year old ritual.

After a brief explanation of what is the Temazcal, its history, and how to get the best out of it, the ceremony will start.

Firstly, we salute the four directions, representing the four elements, and ask permission to start ceremony.

Then we enter the sweat lodge, symbol of the womb of the Earth.
Water, mixed with our freshly harvested aromatic herbs, is poured into the volcanic stones that were heated by the Fire, to create the steam (Wind) that, through breathing, prayers, and medicine songs, will support us in detoxing and our body, relaxing our mind, and freeing our spirit.

Finally, we exit the “womb”, ready for a new perspective on life. You can jump into our pool or use one of our exterior showers, to support us in a cool and fresh start.

Cold herbal teas and fruits will be served.
Other things to note
Our sweat-lodge is relatively large. Which allows guests who feel too much heat to lay down, and those who wish to feel more heat, to stand on their knees for a moment or as long as they wish.

I am the co-founder of the Holistic Center Tikun, and the sweat lodge has been an important pillar since the beginning.
Our guides, Lalo, Jimena, Vania and Petrus, have 12+ years of experience guiding Sweat lodge ceremonies. To become "Temazcaleros" they had to follow masters for 5 years. They have not stopped giving ceremonies ever since.

Hol leszünk?

Holistic Tikun is the first, family owned, holistic center on the island of Cozumel. We grow a lot a food and have stingless bees sanctuary.

The sweat-lodge and pool are surrounded by trees and a tropical atmosphere.

My boyfriend and I took the first ferry of the day (8am) to Cozumel. The ferry ride was about 45 min. From there, we took a taxi to the experience, which is located in a jungely area. It was easy to find. We arrived just in time for the temezcal to start, and as recommended by another reviewer, we took down the cab driver’s info, so we could call him to pick us up. Note, if you are coming from Playa Del Carmen, the ferry was only operating on even days. Upon arrival, I noticed that the host was not the host listed on the Air BnB website. The host was an older gentleman and shaman, who reminded me of Chong (from Cheech and Chong). He was really happy and kind, albeit a little out there, lol. We started in the gazebo. There were 3 of us plus to shaman. This was sort of an introductory period for the participants, and the shaman imparted a little of his ancient wisdom on us. We then entered the temezcal, where we were asked to share very personal information and sing songs of our choice in front of the group. As an introvert, I was taken aback by this, but nervously participated. It felt like a forced group therapy session. The shaman was very nice to translate everything to English for me, but it I felt that it slowed things down. Disappointingly, the temezcal never got very hot. I came there ready to sweat out my toxins, but only got slightly warm. We never had time to really relax and enjoy the heat either. It was a very interactive session. When the session was over, we did not take a dip in the pool, but were told how to conclude our session. A small plate of nuts, prunes, a sliced banana, a sliced apple, and something like Nutella. We shared this between 4 people. At the end, we were encouraged to give tips and the shaman was kind enough to drive us back to the ferry and give us some recommendations in Cozumel. Overall, I didn’t feel like this experience was a good value at $100. I have only been to one other temezcal in Playa Del Carmen (another Air BnB experience). The other experience was $50 and much better in my opinion. With that experience, we were served a large table of nachos, homemade guacamole, plates of sliced fruit, and juice... more than we could eat. And that temezcal was also hotter, and we were given natural scrubs and lotions to rub on our body. I left feeling like I just did a detox. Furthermore, I wasn’t forced to awkwardly share personal info and sing for the group on the spot. I just sat back and enjoyed the heat and the energy of the shaman’s voice and drum. When compared to my one other Temezcal, this was quite disappointing and didn’t feel worth $100/pp.

This was my firs Tezmacal ceremony and I’m so happy I did this! My host and her son were just so welcoming and nice. They walked me through what the experience entailed. During the ceremony...it was just a beautiful experience! I was staying in Playa Del Carmen so took the ferry there and we finished in time for me to take make the last ferry back. This is located off a backroad of sorts so ask your cab if they can stay and wait for you or get their number for when to return to pick you up. Total cab to and from the ferry, with him waiting, was $300 pesos. My ceremony was at 6p so I didn’t get into the pool or eat anything. But it was still absolutely worth it. The ceremony is about 2hrs. I left feeling so full of gratitude. Absolutely recommend this traditional ceremonial experience.
