Mit fogunk csinálni?

(1) Explore the oldest but active Omiwa jinja shrine in Yamato region.
(2) Learn about the history of Japan.
(3) Experience and learn about the spiritual traditions of Shinto
(the difference between Buddhism)
(4) Drink some holy spring water of Mt. Miwa.
(5) See the grand view of Yamato region with oldest tomb mound of the shaman queen, Himiko.
(6) Have some local sake tasting or enjoy a sake ice cream.

- Optional: the local specialty noodle "soumen" for lunch at my favorite restaurant.
(Morning tour only!)

We will take a JR local train to get to Ohmiwa jinja shrine located in Yamato region (Sakurai city).
The sacred Mt. Miwa has been the target of worship from ancient times, and I grew up seeing this holy mountain.
Recently, this special site is increasingly attracting people from all over Japan as a power spot. I will guide you around the shrine, and be a good storyteller on the history, legend, and mythology related to the area as well as spiritual customs of Japan. Shinto belief is deeply rooted to the very universal and has deep wisdom on harmony and balance between human and nature.

After the tour, I hope you will have a much deeper understanding of Japan in general. If you've had a special interest and affinity towards Japan for a long time, then I think you will find a good reason during the tour.
Other things to note
With respect, please be reminded not to talk loudly or take photos in sacred ground. If you have an extra 3 hours, I also host "Explore spiritual power spots in Nara!" to visit Hase dera Temple after lunch break

Hello! I am Akiko. I grew up in the Yamato region in Nara, the birthplace of Japan as a nation and home of Japanese spirituality.
I’m living in Nara city as a government-licensed tour guide since 2009. So far, I've guided many foreign tourists (both first visitors and repeaters) who had deep, strong interests in Japan. Through my personal experiences, I’m very much aware of the true value of the spiritual heritage of Japan, which is rarely explained to the tourists in English.

I love history, meeting new people and taking them to my favorite sites in the off-the-beaten-path. If you are a bit tired of the too crowded touristy area, why don't you visit the Yamato region with me, a little bit south of Nara city?

Hol leszünk?

It takes about 30 minutes by train from JR Nara to get to Ohmiwa Shrine, the first ranking shrine in Yamato region. We get off at a station with no staff. From a grand torii gate, you can feel the special sacred atmosphere. I often come back here to find inner peace, connection with something Great. This place is full of history and legends from the time of mythology. A recently made local guide book even proudly states, "Unknown origin".

I had a chance to spend half a day with Akiko personally. Thanks to her deep knowledge about Yamato area, Shinto and Japanese history, I have learnt so much. Akiko has helped me to have a better understanding of Japanese history especially Shintonism which help to lay out a basic knowledge for me to take out and apply for the rest of my trip in Japan. Akiko is also a very thoughtful and caring young lady. We have been bonding quite well throughout the trip. Aside from learning about culture, Akiko also were happy to help me with any other questions I had about my next destination. In short of, highly recommended for everyone to join this experience. You will not be able to do it yourself without a help from a local.

Mit vigyél magaddal?

If the weather forecast is bad, please bring an umbrella or a rain coat.

Morning tour ends around lunch time. You can go back to Nara right away or have lunch near the Shrine. I can recommend 2 good local "Soumen" (thinly stretched noodle, local speciality) restaurants. The lunch price is not included, and cash is required.
