This opportunity gets visitors to the area off-the-beaten path and hiking a unique, historic local landmark that not many travelers discover. The two hour hike begins in the woods of the Lantern Hill valley and winds past Lantern Hill Pond before beginning the hike to the top of Lantern Hill. Along the way, we'll talk about the history of the local Pequot tribe who live here and to whom these lands are sacred. We'll discuss how Lantern Hill featured in the lives of the American colonists and also point out local native plant and animal species. Participants should be reasonably physically fit and agile. We'll take breaks along the way and pause at the top of the hill for photos of the lovely views. This hike made the Hartford Courant’s list of “Six Great Connecticut Hikes” because of its stunning views. See for yourself.

Erika & Peter love hiking and have many years of experience hiking the Lantern Hill area. They are well-versed in the local Native American history as well as the area's native plants and animals. They are also in the lodging business and love meeting people from all over the country and world.

Guests will begin the experience at Abbey's Lantern Hill Inn where they can leave their vehicles in a secure lot with ample parking. The hike will lead them past Lantern Hill Pond, to the summit of Lantern Hill, and then returning to the Inn.
