We enjoyed a 2 hour hike through the mountains taking in breathtaking views from many different angles. En route we stopped at different view points and our driver explained the sites to us. We visited the women’s cooperative where we learned about the argan oil process and tried some delicious food and tea. The highlight of the trip was the spectacular lunch provided at Mohamed’s family home with stunning views across the valley. Mohamed was an great guide and he and his family were so kind to host us so well and make us so comfortable in their home. If I visit again (which I hope I will) I’ll definitely be visiting Mohamed!

we booked this tour because it was the only one we found that DIDNT do camel riding. We really didn’t want to do that! But our day was filled with wonderful other things besides that :) ) we had a great time in the mountains with Mohamed and our driver. We had some good laughs with our driver in the way to the mountain and stopped at a Argan oil cooperative to learn about the tradition and eat some delicious food! The views got more and more breathtaking as we drove up the mountain and Mohammed lead us to a beautiful waterfall on our hike, and down through a very unique route to his village that didn’t have any others tourists! The highlight was definitely having a delicious lunch on mohameds terrace overlooking the mountain. This was one of the most beautiful places I have EVER seen and his terrace was decorated so pretty! with rugs and cute table all laid out ready for us. Lunch was wonderful and we shared it with Mohamed, met his daughter and sister and had some lovely conversation. It was a wonderful look into real Berber village life

Actually, there weren’t enough people on my trip, so I got transferred to another one the night before. Therefore I cannot review this experience; but I can say that it is probably very similar to the one I got transferred to (both guides know each other), and that one was phenomenal, and the guide was excellent. The Berber community is beautiful, and absolutely worth a visit. If you are someone who gets carsick easily, you should bring some medicine for the ride up the mountain!

WOW! As an Airbnb Superhost in Chicago, I get the opportunity to stay at other Airbnb's around the globe including unique Airbnb experiences that one cannot find in a normal tour guide. Folks, do yourself a favor and select this experience because it's worth experiencing. This personal experience is something all must do while in Marrekech: To be at an actual Berber's family home and get to know their culture close-up. Meeting genuine locals is a rare treat which I boasted to my friends after my wonderful trip in Morocco and I had that opportunity. The pick up was very easy to find in Marrekech, where the hired driver drove me to Mohamed's home in Imlil. I booked a Tuesday excursion which gave me the opportunity to go to the local market and see where the locals purchase their food, including tagine ingredients. Do not expect a souk full of tourist or souvenirs though. The road to the Atlas mountains was very scenic and I was just in awe during the drive because you'll realize that the Berbers live on the mountains with panoramic views and you'll get to meet a family who's willing to share their home with you for the afternoon. My host, Mohamed, greeted me just before the bridge that would lead me to his village and home. It's a bit of a walk up, but it's definitely doable. What sets Mohamed's experience apart is that he actually built his home for his family which took years to execute. Ask for a tour of his home afterwards. The main room does not disappoint as it overlooks an instagrammable view. His family all played a part of this experience. Although they couldn't speak English, they were warm and genuine and you can get the sense they want you to have a pleasant stay thru their gestures and kindness. Mohamed and I chatted throughout my excursion making me feel at ease as a solo traveler. I think I got the lucky draw. Mohamed makes this experience more than a 5 star experience. He is pleasant, communicative and personable and we shared stories about our cultures and exchanged Airbnb stories. The hike to the waterfall was very nice. Bring walking shoes to hike the mountain. I saw people of all ages hiked the mountain. It was high season and the path was a bit crowded though, but I didn't mind. The waterfall is Imlil's tourist attraction but the orange juice and a shaded area to sit at the top was worth the trip up. I personally dropped in a shop along the mountain side where I discovered berber textiles and carpets. As an interior designer, I felt more comfortable buying it through Ibrahim, the shop keeper, rather then the ones at Marrakech's souks. It made me feel like it was more impactful purchasing them locally. And oh, the stories to tell to my friends. We headed back to Mohamed's home where we finally had time to eat the tagine that I helped prepare earlier in the afternoon with Mohamed's mom. One advice is if his mom would explain the preparation of the meal rather than Mohamed, but it maybe a cultural thing. I would have enjoyed hear from his "Mom" about her cooking process. I'm rambling, but I want to thank Mohamed and his family how appreciative I am for their warm hospitality. It's a really good experience. p.s., Mohamed also offer accommodations at his home which I wish I knew earlier. I would have stayed that evening to get away from the excitement of Marrekech just to get to know Mohamed and open my eyes to something new for me.
