The beautiful town of Maalot is located in the Western Galilee, 20 km east of Nahariya. In mountainous region in Israel’s north.Ranges of hills with high peaks, one river, many streams, dozens of brooks, primal landscapes. The Galilee is one of Israel’s main tourism centers, with dozens of different types of sites. For example, there are national antiquities parks Bar’am, Zippori, Beit She’arim, Monfort and Kohav Hayarden; moshav farming communities from the early days of the modern settlement of Israel, which tell the story of Zionism (Metula, Yesud Ha-Ma’ala, Rosh Pina); beautiful nature reserves (Hula Lake, Mt. Meron, Bar’am Forest, Nahal Kziv and many more); Jewish holy sites, such as the graves of the sages and ancient synagogues (in Safed (Tsfat) and Tiberias); and Christian holy sites that are visited by many pilgrims during their tour of the Holy Land (Nazareth, Kfar Nahum (Capernaum), the Jordan River and Lake Kineret). Beach access requires a car. The Nachal Kziv streams just below the house Nature Reserve contains some of the Galilee's finest hiking, from the stream's seasonal start carved through the low mountains to the lazy end at Achziv – a historical site. During the winter months the stream's cold water rushes downhill, emptying into the expansive Mediterranean Sea. The summer months reduce much of the stream to sun-baked rocks, with copious amounts of shade trees. Both seasons provide lovely hikes for the whole family. Perhaps the most popular of segments is the area between Monfort Castle and Ma'alot, a scenic plunge twisting through the rock-face cliffs and tree-covered mountains that comprise much of the Upper Galilee's topography. This segment of hiking is included in the very popular and very worthwhile hike of Hof L'Hof (or as it is known to Americans and other Anglos: Yam L'Yam), which takes hikers from the shores of Lake Kinneret to the Mediterranean. Of course, this hike can be done just by walking along the riverbed but some of the greater treasures lay at a higher elevation.
Besides its fitness centers, Ma’alot has one of the only two ice skating rinks in the country. Add to that a go-cart track, another Olympic size pool, a man-made lake surrounded by lush, park grounds, which include paths for both walking and jogging enthusiasts, and pedal boat and kayak rentals available on the lake, its difficult even to consider living anywhere else.
I can show the places in which ordinary tourists do not visit. Depending on what you want to do, I can show you the best the area has to offer. We'll explore the highlights of the Galilee together.
