Willoughby's Loft. Only 10 mins drive from York's centre in a quiet village. Willoughby's Loft is accessed from a sunny courtyard. Converted from a 300 year old stable, part of a Gentleman's Residence in a small village on the outskirts of York. We have an orchard with chickens and occasionally piglets. One of three cottages, Darcy's Cottage, Dashwood and Willoughby's Loft. Dashwood is a two bedroomed cottage. Darcy's & Willoughby's have one bedroom. All are luxury, period cottages.

Arrival By Car If you are driving and using satnav, the address is on your confirmation. Please note our postal address is actually Holtby House, Main Street, Holtby but certain maps refer to Main Street as Straight Lane. Check you have the right postcode and either street name. This will take you into the village. If you are coming from the A166, Holtby House is on the right hand side. If you reach the church then you have gone three houses too far. If you are coming from Holtby Lane or through Warthill then we are the third house after the church on the left hand side. Look for pillars at the bottom of the drive.
At the top of the drive you will see a parking area. Once parked, enter the courtyard. Look for a large grey door in the corner to the right with a lantern above.
If coming by bus, take the lane immediately by the bus stop, Panman Lane. At the end, turn right on to Main Street and continue for about 50yards. Look for some pillars, just after The Bungalow. That’s the bottom of our drive.
Eating out in York - Here are a few recommendations.
Skosh - Very new and highly rated
The Rattle Owl - These are both new and on Micklegate. I can personally recommend The Rattle Owl.
The Star Inn the City. Great location and food. I have eaten a number of times here.
Mr P’s Curious Tavern - This is a new spin off from The Star. Sort of Yorkshire tapas with a gin speciality - might be fun.
Ambiente - Goodramgate and Fossgate. One of my favourites. There are two in York, sort of Spain meets Yorkshire.
No 8 Gillygate - I haven't managed to get here yet but it's highly rated.
The Bistro Guy - Also on Gillygate. Very good, lovely guy, he's a parent from my daughter's school.
There's also the usual chains in York which are good. Some like Jamies, Ask, Pizza Express and Loch Fynne are in beautiful buildings.
Locally I can recommend these two pubs and they both allow dogs.
The Three Cups in Stamford Bridge. Postcode Yo41 1AX
The Duke of York in Gate Helmsley Postcode YO41 1JS
The nearest pub is the Agar Arms. It is less than a mile away in the next village, Warthill and serves food Tues - Sun. It is a bit hit and miss as it keeps changing tenancy.
Best Indian Takeaway, The Viceroy Address 26 Monkgate, York YO31 7PF
My three favourite places that you may not have heard of…
Burton Agnes Hall. An Elizabethan manor house built by Sir Henry Griffith in 1601–10. It has a ghost, amazing carvings, art, gardens, shops and a sculpture walk. Burton Agnes, Driffield YO25 4NB 45 mins drive along the a166.
The Forbidden Corner is very quirky. Originally built as a folly, this family attraction is riddled with statues and unique buildings. You have to book a ticket online for a time slot. Dogs are not allowed but there are kennels. Middleham DL8 4TJ 45-60mins up the A1.
Falling Foss Tea Garden - Fabulous and magical walk suitable for most and a lovely tea garden. Open seasonally April - September Subject to change in bad weather - please call if in doubt Checkout their F B page too. Post code YO22 5JD. About 45 mins towards Whitby.
Recommended beaches - Runswick Bay, Sandsend, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington.
