Welcome to the Mann Cottage! Jack loved coming to Hatteras but after Lillian spent many hours on a ferry stuck on a sand bar during a crossing of Oregon Inlet she refused to come back until there was a better way to get here. So after the Bonner Bridge was built in the early 1960s Jack convinced her they should buy this cottage. Three generations of our family have enjoyed many happy times here and we sincerely hope you’ll also feel the good vibes this simple cottage always seems to generate!

The villages of Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo are often referred as the tri villages or RWS. At one time they were 3 distinct areas but now its hard to tell where one village ends and the other begins. Our cottage in Salvo is a simple beach box that was the first one built in Hatteras Colony. It's one lot back from the ocean, and between 2 beach accesses. It has central heating and air conditioning with ceiling fans throughout. There are two bedrooms, one bath, with dining and living room, covered screened porch, apartment sized washer~dryer combination, and an outdoor shower with hot/cold water. The coffee maker does not require paper filters. A carry all for the complimentary beach towels and beach blankets is provided for your use. A retractable clothes line and clothes pins are on the covered porch. Free on site parking for two vehicles. We are family friendly but do not have high chairs, cribs, etc. for small children. However, those items, and more, are available for rent locally.
To quote two special ladies, "This ain't no Jarvisburg road house" , so "Excessive partying, belligerence, violence, or the like of any of that, will not be tolerated."
Help conserve energy. There is often a nice cross breeze through the house thus the air conditioner is not always needed, but when it is please do not run the air conditioner with the windows and doors open. And please don't leave the tap, shower, or hose on when it's not in use. Thank you for assisting in these endeavors! Think globally, act locally.

We live in "downtown" Salvo and are just a couple minutes away from the cottage. We're available to help resolve issues that might arise but we'll let you enjoy your stay without undo interference. We're knowledgable of the area and can provide information on local attractions and activities to suit your interests. Late check in is available upon request.

Prior to cable television arriving in the mid 80s we entertained ourselves with a variety of card games, board games, books, and magazines. There's still no cable TV, but games, books, and magazines are here. The internet connection and a smart TV are our concession to the modern age! You're on vacation, slow down, breath, relax, enjoy!
Roving lifeguards from the village's fire and rescue squad patrol our beach from 10:30am to 5pm daily from approx. Memorial Day thru Labor Day.
Things that you might enjoy on your way to Salvo include:
Eastern North Carolina is finally on the beer map with several good breweries along the US 64-264 corridor and local breweries in Manteo and Kill Devil Hills.
The Hampton Roads area of Virginia also has several breweries worth sampling as well. (URL HIDDEN)
Gotta keep Momma happy by including these!
NC Cheese Trail (URL HIDDEN)
The only business located east of the Raleigh area is Trio in Kitty Hawk, aptly named Trio Wine, Beer & Cheese. We absolutely love Trio and heartily suggest you plan a visit to their lovely establishment ! It's worth the effort!! (URL HIDDEN)
