The lakeside cabin was built by a young Finnish immigrant named Waino Maninnen in about 1930, and restored by me.in the 1980's. It has a sauna built into the hillside beneath it. The hillside cabin, or "Cook's cabin" as we call it, was built by me from timber on the land in the early 1990's. Both cabins are well maintained and in regular use. I added a new tool shed and pavilion with an outdoor kitchen in 2013. My family has been coming up to this land since the 1930's, and my siblings have several cabins further down the lake.
NOTE: Wintertime use is for experienced campers only! You must snowshoe or ski in, ice conditions on the lake must be taken into consideration, and the well pump is drained, so drinking water must be packed in. Wash up water can be gotten by chopping a hole in the ice near shore. Winter use is not for the inexperienced or faint hearted. Conditions can be very harsh, with extremely low temperatures, deep snow or high winds. Frostbite and hypothermia are real options. I love wintertime, but you must know what you are doing in an off road, severe environment.
This is a rustic set of cabins with off grid, with gas lanterns, stove and refrigeration, wood stove heat, off road, access is by water across from the Fall Lake campground. I have a cabin manual to familiarize guests with the operation of everything. There is no road behind you for 100 miles! Town is 20 minutes away by boat and car.
Note: because of the off road nature of the camp, we cannot provide linens or towels. Bring your own sheets pillows, blankets or sleeping bags, and towels. See cabin manual for full operational information.
IMPORTANT! The wood stacked and split in the woodsheds is for use in the woodstoves and sauna only. For outdoor cooking or campfires, use the wood under tarps or in piles near the fire circle, or gather your own dry wood from the forest. Make sure your wood is firm and dry, not green or punky or it will be smoky and give off less heat to boot.

We are organizational consultants and entrepreneurs raising twin teens! We love the outdoors, everything from hiking, swimming and skiing to making maple syrup in late winter and and hard cider in early fall. We built our home here in the Happy Valley to raise a family and foster community.
We think you will feel the inspiration and love that went into creating this unique homestead for rest and renewal.
