Tianjara is a unique, peaceful, and secluded place to stay in the beautiful Myall Lakes region. It has the solitude of the forest whilst being only one kilometre from the Lakes Way and a short drive to unspoiled beaches, lakes, and National Parks
Our 25-acre property consists of eucalypt forest, with some rainforest gullies and about six acres of cleared land.
Our house was built in early 2000, from mud bricks made on site, trees from the property and locally sourced sustainable timber. We did most of the building ourselves. It has stand-alone solar-power, dry composting eco-toilets, greywater reed beds, and is chemical free.
Your private two-person queen-bed room is across the breezeway from the main house. Quality linen is provided, and beach towels for the outdoor shower. You have a private en-suite with a shower and dry composting toilet, and a small kitchenette for tea, coffee and breakfast. There is a beautiful tropical al-fresco shower to rinse off the sand when you get back from the beach.
You can relax in the screened breezeway where you can connect to the WiFi, or under the grape-vine covered pergola. A great spot for breakfast!
There is a gas BBQ for you to use, but you may want to try one on the fine cafes restaurants or clubs in the area.
There is a designated off-street guest parking spot.
WiFi is available in the breezeway and limited mobile phone coverage, but we don't have TV.
Our property has organic vegie gardens and orchards, a mini horse and two friendly dogs.
We raise organic poultry for egg production, and have about 50 laying hens, and some roosters. (We provide ear plugs for the light-sleepers, but most people say they love to hear this country sound!)
We love our place and are happy to share it with you
You are welcome to wander around the property, just remember to close the gates!
We live full time at our house, and someone will usually be around during the day and evening. We love to show our house to anyone who is interested, so you are welcome to join us for a chat and a cuppa. John makes a great coffee!
If you need anything we are available, but we respect your privacy and your room is your own private space.
Judy works at the local Visitor Centre and has a wealth of knowledge about the area!
Tianjara is along a quiet country road, one kilometer from the Lakes Way. It is totally secluded, but not far from all that Pacific Palms is famous for. The best of both worlds, beach and country!
There are several restaurants and cafes, as well as a range of local shops a few minutes drive from here. A full list is available in your room. In busy periods it is advisable to book in advance for dinner. We can do this for you if you wish.
The bus from Taree to Newcastle and back stops at the end of the road three times a day; trains from Newcastle to Sydney run regularly.
However, to get to the beaches and the shops you need your own car.
Your ensuite has a composting toilet. It is completely odour-free, and user-friendly. You'll find that staying here is a great chance to try all the advantages of a sustainable lifestyle!
We are fussy about cleanliness, and as property is chemical-free, your room has been cleaned using only Enjo products.
Your breakfast ingredients will be in your room, with organic tea and coffee available all the time. You can prepare your breakfast at your leisure: juice, fruit, muesli, home-made yoghurt, organic farm eggs, hand-made organic bread, butter home made jam and local honey. If you have special dietary needs, or would like us to provide something different please let us know when you book.
* switch off all lights ceiling fan and gas heater when you leave the room.
* rinse off all the sand when you come back from the beach, either the hot outdoor shower or wash your feet with the hose.
* Don't sleep with the gas fire on!
John Ling and Judy Donnelly, passionate environmentalists from the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales Australia. Judy is semi-retired but still does some catering work, John is a nurse in aged care. We live on a 25 acre property in the forest, near the beaches. We grow vegetables and keep hens, dogs and horses. We built our mud-brick solar-powered house ourselves. We don't smoke, John likes an occasional glass of white wine. We like bicycling, kayaking and bushwalking, but the property keeps us pretty busy. We don't have TV, we read a lot, enjoy listening to classical and world music. We are involved in lots of community groups, such as rural fire brigade and organic food co-ops. Judy runs the Visitor Centre in Pacific Palms
