The largest part of this families stay was during a major tropical storm where damage was being done by mother nature, and the waterway in front of the house was flooding. Luckily for everyone, Panama does not have hurricanes, but tropical Caribbean storms can still arise. The sea swelled to an unbelievable high and the waves were causing major damage to the majority of the island. Although this is not typical for the area, the power of nature sometimes has it’s own plans.
We believe the experience they had while they were here would have been completely different if they had come when the sun was shining and the waters were smooth and clear. Sometimes people make the best of a situation, and others only find the worst in it. The island is still very safe during natural storms. We are located on the leeward side of the island and protected by a coral reefs.
The house they chose is unbelievably magical due to it’s remote location. It is located just outside of the jungle tucked away on an almost uninhabited side of the island. This house is an open air cottage just 50 steps off of swimmable beaches.
The tropical islands in all of the Caribbean are home to a vast majority of bugs and other amazing animals. This location is a humid tropical rain forest in a third world country, and bugs in the rainforest are common part of the life here. These houses are not dirty, they are in the Caribbean and have the same issues as multi-million dollar homes anywhere on any of the islands. The fact is if you want the natural tropics it’s inevitable that you will see ant-eaters, monkeys, sloths, palmetto jungle bugs, roaches, flies, spiders, grasshoppers, ants, leaf-cutter ants, bat, fruit bats, geckos ect.. It is circle of life in the jungle. It is naive to think that bugs in the jungle need to be killed off in order to enjoy your stay.
We do however fumigate the rooms to keep the outside life at a minimal from coming in, but with doors and windows being left open to the environment sometimes you will see unexpected guests. We can always re-fumigate the rooms if something unexpected walks in.
These guests were overly angry about bugs and were screaming so loud at the office staff they had them in tears.
We believe they chose the wrong environment and reacted out of a lack of knowledge and understanding with an unrealistic outlook to what it means to visit a remote location in the Caribbean Islands.
This concept of this house and the resort was built on enjoying paradise without overly disturbing the environment and causing too un reversible damage to nature as all eco-resorts do.
We are happy they enjoyed the restaurant and the neighborhood monkey. We are sorry that the sun did not shine for their few days with us.
