All of this very large space in the apartment is for your use including all closets and storage. The space is set up like a very large studio with two separate bedrooms in addition in addition to the great room or common room. There is one bathroom accessed from the common room. The common room bed is located in an alcove off the main part of the common room. The common room has a large walk in closet, a large under staircase storage area and the bedrooms each have a closet with a door.
At the base of the interior stairs is a common room we call the carriage room for hanging warm clothes, dressing for the weather, getting one's skis on or the like and will be your entrance in the winter and by request can be used for secure storage year round.
Limited yard space with natural and slightly improved access has granite seats and a fire pit with permit fires (website hidden) Cardigan as well as pastoral and forest views can be seen from the apartment. There is a small shared deck with chairs for your use outside the main entrance next to the bridge. The bridge leads to a terrace, garden, granite seats, fire pit and small backyard you may use. These are natural or improved irregular ground which may be slippery under local conditions year round.
Please park next to the main house on the High Street side for your convenience. You will see a sign in front of your access way that says "Free Lobster" at the entrance to the carriage way; the apartment is about 65' behind the Lobster sign at the end of the carriage way and at the top of the exterior stairway. Feel free to park in front of the sign and gate. After entering the carriage way gate to the left of the Lobster sign as above, not the gate to the main house porch on the right, walk down the carriage way about 65' straight to the exterior staircase and climb the stairs to your exterior entry door of the apartment. The gates, apartment, and carriage room (common room) are unlocked. When you need the keys you will find the keys hanging on a hook near the door or on the dining room table. In the winter, enter the Carriage Room (common room) of the Carriage House under the exterior stairs; at the end of the carriage way is the carriage house door, enter this common space and leave unlocked, the interior stairs to the apartment are to the left. The entrance to our home is to the right and off limits please.

Cell phone service is spotty here in the village at this time. Text and email do work well for us. Anna works long hours at the hospital getting up early and home about bedtime. Please do not disturb Anna. I try to stay on Anna's schedule. I like to interact with guests, but I stay very busy working at home or hiking our local trails.

Let’s start with an introduction to five of the Upper Valley’s best loved museums.
American Precision Museum: Housed in the historic Robbins & Lawrence Armory, The American Precision Museum lays claim to the “largest collection of historically significant machine tools in the nation.” Children and adults alike gain insight into the history of mass production, much of which was pioneered right here in the Upper Valley. Located in Windsor, Vermont, the American Precision Museum is a step back in time with relevance to the present and the future.
Montshire Museum of Science: To steal a line from Sara Lee: Nobody doesn’t like the Montshire Museum of Science. Located just off I-91 in Norwich, Vermont, the Montshire offers interactive science exhibits for the curious of all ages. Inside and out, it’s a great place to let the kids run and play. The Montshire also offers programs expressly for adults.
Enfield Shaker Museum: Situated on the shores of Mascoma Lake in Enfield, New Hampshire, the Shaker Museum is worth a visit for the view alone. The Shakers referred to the site as the “Chosen Vale.” It’s where they created the largest Shaker dwelling ever constructed, otherwise known as the Great Stone Dwelling. It’s now home to the museum. Tour the house and grounds, or go for a guided walking tour each Tuesday. Also check out the website for workshops, musical performances, and lectures.
Billings Farm & Museum: Promoting itself as the “Gateway to Vermont’s Rural Heritage,” Billings has enough cows and sheep on hand to immerse you in the state’s country roots. But there’s more to Billings than milk and wool. There’s a fully restored 1890s farmhouse to explore, exhibits and workshops to attend, and a movie theater that plays host to the Woodstock Vermont Film Series.
Hood Museum of Art: Through 2018, the main museum is closed due to a significant expansion. But there’s still a lot to do at the Hood. The expanded venue will reopen at its traditional spot, just off the town square in Hanover, New Hampshire. In the meantime, exhibits remain open to the public in a smaller location at 53 Main Street. But the Hood is about more than static art. It offers a wide range of social gatherings, workshops, walking tours, and lectures. Shopping for groceries in Canaan; I use Pap Z's a quarter mile further east on NH RT 118 from the apartment. Breakfast and lunch can be had across the common at Dishing it Out Wednesday through Sunday. Let us know if you plan to do much cooking in the apartment and will upgrade the cookware for special needs. Two other restaurants are within a block of the commons everyday for lunch and dinner. Some GPS vendors use the old street name so try 23 Parker Street, Canaan, NH if it can not find 23 New Hampshire Route 118.
Washer and Dryer - If you use the dryer the vent is commonly left on the floor of the upper sitting loft. Heat and moisture will safely vent into the apartment if the vent is ignored. If you wish to avoid the humidity from the dryer insert the vent end into an opened window. Close the window on the vent frame to hold the vent in place and the heat and moisture will be directed outside.
Trails - You are near trails which connect to thousands of miles of recreation trails. The Northern Rail Trail (website hidden) and Railroad Park are a few hundred yards away from the apartment for longer walks with your animal or for your recreation. Cross the green to the south and west, go around the ball fields to the river (left) or Depot Street (right).
We do have ROKU with a TV.
No smoking. No parties.
You may place your winter outdoor equipment including skis and boots in Carriage House Room and Storage or in the apartment itself.
When your group leaves please strip the beds used and put the dirty items in the washer and feel free to start the washer with the laundry detergent provided.
If you bring your dog, the carriage way is a pick up after your animal area. It is OK to put the material in the compose pile, into the garden above, or into trash receptacles. For another pick up after your pet area on the property, from the deck outside your front door, cross the bridge and take the terrace walkway right to the rear of the property to a larger terrace with a fire pit. Walking your dogs can also be done across the street on the green-commons. There are bags for picking up after your animal on the green-commons.
The rail trail and Railroad Park are a few hundred yards away from the apartment for longer walks with your animal. It is a very short drive or one can walk this in a few minutes. Cross the green to the south and west, go around the ball fields to the river (left) or Depot Street right). This is the access to the Northern Rail Trail which extends to Vermont or Boston, MA and connects to thousands of miles of trails.
We have a general fire permit, each fire is by permit which is confirmed with a phone call; let me know and we will help you with this. I have fuel, starter and kindling. There are rules associated with the fire permit which are simple, straight forward and totally safety oriented items which we will help you with. The main rule (law) is the fire must always be attended by an adult until it is fully extinguished.
I am a self employed geologist. I stop to smell the roses , but do not intend to retire. I like my work, but take time for outdoor activities whenever I like, often. Since Katrina I split my time between New Orleans, a farm in St Mary Parish and New Hampshire. I am happily married to a wonderful woman, Anna.
