Rainbow (gay) bars

Wellington's more relaxed gay bar option is a place the queer community feels comfortable regardless of age. Bingay is fun most Wednesdays, as is Karaoke on Thursdays.

Ivy is the closest Wellington gets to a gay nightclub, but it's definitely not one. The music is unreliable and there are never visiting DJs, the space is basement-like though nicely done to a cabaret theme. The average age of punters is younger and the feel is queer thanks to a diverse set of young drag queens and friends. Don't go before 11pm on Friday or Saturday night only.
