The Elderwood is our favorite spot in downtown Visalia. It sits on the rooftop of the Darling Hotel. It has great food and drinks! We love to go here for anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Reservations need to be made sometimes days (or weeks) in advance.

When we want to get out of the valley and head to the foothills for the afternoon, a stop at Reimers Ice Cream in Three Rivers is always a must. Next door, we visit the candy and gift shop on our way out to the deck overlooking the river.

Town Recommendations
Exeter is a small agriculture town in central California. We have a cute downtown, several antique stores and some fabulous murals. We are 15 minutes from Visalia, 20 minutes from Lake Kaweah, 30 minutes from Three Rivers and about 45 minutes from the Sequoia National Park entrance.

Exeter is a small agriculture town in central California. We have a cute downtown, several antique stores and some fabulous murals. We are 15 minutes from Visalia, 20 minutes from Lake Kaweah, 30 minutes from Three Rivers and about 45 minutes from the Sequoia National Park entrance.
Exeter is 15 minutes away from Visalia. Visalia has a great downtown Main Street with stores and restaurants. You will also find a mall, movie theaters, chain restaurants, Costco, Target, Walmart, etc.

A drive to the Giant Sequoias is a must while in Exeter. If you are going towards General Sherman, you will drive up the 198 through Three Rivers. It takes 45 minutes to get to the park entrance and about 1 1/2 hours on the Generals Highway to General Sherman. On the drive, you will pass Lake Kaweah, Three Rivers, Hospital Rock, Moro Rock, General Sherman, Lodgepole, etc.

Before you get to Three Rivers, there is a large parking lot on the left called 'Slick Rock'. We love walking along the river here. Be advised, it does get crowded on weekends and in the summer.

When in Kings Canyon during the summer, our family loves spending the afternoon at Hume Lake. They have a huge youth and family camp there, but the lake is open to the public. There's swimming, stand up paddle board and boat rentals and a burger place with yummy milkshakes.
