Great swimming and easy access to the water. Not a huge beach, but very conveniently located and has showers to rinse off on site.

Along the north side of the island, there are 7 huge valleys that are just beautiful. This is the northern most one, and you can even hike down into it to the beach if it's not a muddy day.

The southern most of the 7 valleys, this one is enormous. A very strenuous hike up/down or drive into it only w/ 4 wheel drive. At the bottom is a beach and waterfall at the back of the valley.

When you think of Hawaii, you are picturing this beach. Long beautiful white sand, palm trees, not many rocks in the water. I have spent many days here just relaxing. Bring Sunscreen.

A ~2 hour drive from Kona, but worth it. Walk through an old lava tube, see the caldera, steam vents in the ground, and if you're up for a hike, ask the rangers if the active lava flow is viewable.

Japanese restaurant w/ sushi and great cocktails. Amazing food, and reservations recommended if you go on a weekend. Try the Miso marinated black cod.

Shaved ice and ice cream shop. Shaved Ice is a MUST try local favorite, and this place does it right. There are 100+ flavors, but some of my favorites are the Passion Fruit, Margarita and Pineapple.

Kona Brew Pub is a gem. They brew their beer on site and sell many different local/seasonal flavors that you can't buy in stores. Check their website for free tour times. Kid friendly as well.

Great Coffee and food as well. Right across from the ocean with tables outside, you can sit and enjoy watching the water or sunset. Some of the best fresh fish sandwiches around.

If you're driving North to see the valleys, stop at Tex Drive in for lunch - fantastic local cheap plate lunches. Or, any other time, stop for a Malasada (portuguese donut with local flavor fillings)
