It was the last of Edward I’s massive building programme in North Wales, as part of his bid to conquer/control the welsh.
However, he never got round to finishing the castle and it was never used in battle.

Parys mountain forms part of the copper mines which are located near Amlwch. These mines have been worked since the Bronze age, over 3500 year's ago, and in the 19th century, they were the largest copper mines in the world.
As a result of the mining, the mountain represents a lunar landscape and has been used in several films whilst offering good views across Anglesey.
The mines were last worked in the early part of the 20th century and some areas of the mine have now been reopened for exploration by the public.
Footpaths around the site give you an indication of the size of the operation, the buildings & pits that were excavated, before nature started to reclaim it, once mining ceased
