Food Scene

A great new addition to Marigot Bay. Masala Bay is located at the 2nd floor of a colonial looking building. The restaurant sits over the Marigot marina with a nice view of the water. The decor of the restaurant is contemporary , bright colours, comfortable seating , impeccable service and last but not least excellent food with an extended choice of vegeterian plates. Chicken Manchurian, Prawn Mole Curry, Beef Shami Kebab, Peshawari Naan and Malai Kofta are among the most popular dishes of Masala Bay.

The small fishing village of Anse La Raye is just 15 minutes from The Villa On The Bay. Every Friday night on a stretch of road running along the beach, groups of local craftspeople, singers and musicians come together to perform. The setting is awesome, the folks are friendly as can be and the fun goes on and on. Come along and enjoy the great live entertainment, and sample St. Lucia’s fresh fish or spiny lobster prepared on the spot.

The longest running street party in St. Lucia, the Gros Islet Friday Night Street Party (45 minutes from The Villa On The Bay) is a hot spot for locals and visitors alike. With the pulsating rhythms echoing from the speakers of the islands DJs and the occasional appearance of local artists, one would be hard pressed not to enjoy themselves and even more so not to move to the infectious bass lines that accompany our Caribbean music. Everyone knows that dancing on an empty stomach is not cool. You can find a variety of BBQ grills serving mouthwatering local cuisine including chicken, pork and sea food.

Arts & Culture

Eudovic uses local woods for his abstract carvings, and since no two roots are the same, every single sculpture is unique and different. The main wood he uses is Laurier Canelle, which is now extinct on the island; but he uses the old stumps and uncovered roots which are usually found deep in the forest. Laurier Canelle has a remarkable beauty which one can see after a sculpture has been completed. It is also very durable. Other woods used are Mahogany, Teak, Laurier Mabouey and red and white Cedar. At his studio on the Morne - 15 minutes from The Villa -, you can see his magnificent pieces on display - pieces that beg to be touched.

The approximately 2-mile loop trail which ascends to more than 1,000 feet above sea level, offers fantastic sights of Piton Flore to the North and the Soufrière mountain range to the West. A number of respoints along the walk also treat you to bird’s eye views of the largest and most modern water catchment facility in the Caribbean – the Roseau Dam, over 300 feet deep and holding 700 million gallons of fresh water. During the two hours of walking you will also get numerous opportunities to see some of the island’s rarest birds (St. Lucia Orioles, Mockingbirds, Tyrants, Hummingbirds, Bananaquits, etc…) including the world famous Amazona Versicolor (the St. Lucian parrot!).

Pigeon Island, a 40-acre islet connected by a causeway to St. Lucia’s west coast, is a beautiful nature park which reflects a thousand years of history. Pigeon Island was a Carib settlement, a pirate’s hideout and the site of one of the strongest fortifications on St. Lucia. There are marked trails with a number of historical sites, like the remains of an 18th-century British fort and Fort Rodney, where the Admiral for which it is named spied on the French ships from its strategic viewpoint.

Hibiscus, Ixora, Heliconias, Anthurium, Frangipani, Orchid, Allamanda and the magnificent Balisier with their exotic blossoms and equally exotic names now brighten the gardens. Vanilla, a member of the Orchid family, climbs up the trunk of the cocoa trees (a natural host) only bearing its valuable aromatic pods if each flower is carefully pollinated by hand. Behind the baths a path leads to the beautiful Diamond waterfall whose water creates brilliant colours on the rock face by the minerals it contains.

The Sulphur Springs are made of 24 bubbling cauldrons where a portion of the volcanic rim collapsed and opened fissures in the crust. The water in the craters, blackened by the iron sulphate still maintains a temperature of 171° Centigrade or 340° Fahrenheit. More technically, the area is classified as a caldera, or rather a portion of the volcanic rim that has collapsed in on itself, opening fissures in the crust. This allows for the constant escape of steam through the bubbling cauldrons, preventing the build up of pressure which would cause an eruption.
