Parks & Nature

The centre piece of the city, this extinct volcano is set in Holyrood Park, a Royal park beside Holyrood Palace, is where you will get the BEST views of the city! It takes about 40/50 minutes to climb so not too hard going for those not into hiking! It's more of a nice uphill walk! The view over the city and coast it definitely worth it and it will leave you feeling refreshed and amazed! Its located right in the heart of the city centre and has a beautiful lower level walk around it as well that takes in some historic ruins and lakes filled with Swans! The whole park is owned by the Queen so the road through it is closed on a Sunday. Top Tip: Watch the sunset from the top!

One of my favourite places in the city! Portobello is a seaside suburb of Edinburgh that has an idyllic Art Deco seafront! With the original 1920's promenade to walk along the length of the beach there are cafes and ice cream vans to stop at along the way! This three-story house was built back in 1470 and has been converted into a small museum which tells the story of two of its most famous inhabitants, James Mossman and John Knox as well as the story of the Reformation period and life in 16th century Edinburgh. James Mossman was a jeweler and goldsmith as well as the keeper of the Royal Mint for the Stuart royalty. John Knox was a significant Protestant religious reformer of the 16th century whose ideas clashed with those of Catholic Mary Queen of Scots. A really interesting museum both due to the house itself and the exhibition! Highly recommended!
