The Salinas Pueblo National Monument is made up of three locations (Quarai, Abó & Gran Quivira ruins) as well as a centrally located visitors center in Mountainair, NM. It is an excellent glimpse into the worlds of the Pueblo peoples and their interactions/lives with the Spanish Colonists. Each site is a ruins and makes for an excellent day trip (so take a picnic lunch.
I recommend traveling to the visitors center in Mountainair first....then off to both Quarai & Abó the leave Gran Quivira for last before returning home to Ruidoso, NM. Expect a lot of hours to do this and many miles on the car (but oh so worth it). This monument is scarcely traveled and often times, if traveling to during fall, winter & spring.......you may be the only visitors at any given moment.

Excellent old mining town/ghost town. Great hiking and views into life in the past in the Southwest. Can be seen in one drive while also going to the ghost towns of Jicarilla & Ancho.

What remains of this ghost town are but a few old log structures. The views from here are marvelous and a great place to stop for a picnic lunch when visiting White Oaks & Ancho as well.

Great little ghost town and still relevant as a populated township well into the 20th century. See what remains of this train stop town. Great to see it on trips to see White Oaks & Jicarilla.
