Sightseeing
Eat at a place on the square in downtown Murphy, then walk to the River Walk from there. Lots of easy walking and play. Two rivers join together. Old train tracks. Beautiful boardwalk.
Start your hike at the Train Depot. Follow the trail along the river, hang left at forks. No matter where you go, it’s gorgeous.
Follow the walk till you are closer to downtown. Look at your google maps. You can walk out of the River Walk and hike to the square. Easily walk back to car from there.

Jumping off rocks and rope swings into a crystal clear lake surrounded by mountains. Find Nottely Dam on your mapping app (turn right out of Tommy’s Lane, at the stop sign turn right, at the red light turn right, that will put you south on 129, After about five minutes you will be in Georgia. At the first red light you come to turn right. This is 325 Drive 2.5 miles) Right After you cross over the big dam. Look on the left for little gravel entrances With yellow gates. Looks like maintenance roads. The second one is the one you want to take. This will put you at a spot where you can jump off the rocks that are close to the lake. There are random spots along the lake to park. If you take the third entrance, it will get you closer to the rope swing. And there is a higher platform to jump off just passed the rope swing spot. Kind of out on the point.
There is a waterfall at the bottom of the dam. Folllow the road before you cross over the dam to the bottom. Caution needs to be taken at the waters edge.
Explore other parts of the lake by driving on the other access roads before and after the dam. These roads will take you to all kinds of spots to swim. All are a little different.

Turn right out of Tommy’s Lane all the way to the stop sign and then turn left. 30 minutes flat from door-to-door). At the parking lot of the Whitewater Center, go to Bridge and then take the trail before the bridge upstream (left). Take trail past creek crossing and then water holes are on your right. (2 minute walk from bridge)
GoForth Creek Waterfalls are 10 minutes drive from the Center.

Panther Top Lookout- To get to the Panther Top tower,turn right out of Tommy's Lane onto Spur 60N 3 miles. Turn left onto 64/74 W, drive west on US 64 1.8 miles and turn right 294 for 1 mile and turn right on Panther Top Road. Continue 2.8 mi. until the pavement ends and the road forks. Take the right fork. And go toward the Panther Top Shooting Range. When you get to the junction, there will be a sign indicating the shooting range to the left. Go right until you get to a gated road on your left. The junction can be missed easily if you are not watching for it. Park right there on the road. Walk through the gate and hike up the mountain. It’s about a 20 to 30 minute hike up. Bring hammocks and food. It’s amazing.

This is a jewel in our area. The folk school is a hands-on, old arts with real artists teaching kind of school.
Concerts, dances and events throughout the year . Walk around the campus and visit classes going on to see first hand. It is amazing.

We love this lake but you have to go to the right place! We like to take the entrance just past the lake. That second entrance takes you to a fork. The left fork will lead you to the lower lake. The upper fork will take you to the dam. OUR FAVORITE SPOT. Lots of locals! Fishing, dam jumping, adventure jumping.
Take the trail to the right just after you cross the dam. The trail will take you to the picnic area. Sweet trail. Lots of wild flowers.

Cherokee Lake Recreation Area
We love this lake but you have to go to the right place! We like to take the entrance just past the lake. That second entrance takes you to a fork. The left fork will lead you to the lower lake. The upper fork will take you to the dam. OUR FAVORITE SPOT. Lots of locals! Fishing, dam jumping, adventure jumping.
Take the trail to the right just after you cross the dam. The trail will take you to the picnic area. Sweet trail. Lots of wild flowers.
