Museums

This is an awesome museum consisting of two huge buildings full of well presented displays or actual items or excellent replicas, plus an IMAX theater. It is big draw for students and people who are interested in Aviation or Space travel . A major indoor waterpark is also part of the complex that is its own attraction.

Once a year in the fall, live reenactments of historical baseball, music, food, clothing, drinks, crafts, smithing, wood-working, trades, etc... are held here. Free hay rides are offered from the parking lot to the museum grounds. All year this large, warehouse of a museum houses an amazing assortment of antique wagons, carriages, tractors, trailers, tools, machines, toys, kitchen implements, and so on. It's an informative visit to Yamhill County's past.

Hiking / Trails

This is a series of hiking trails, literally, just down the road from us . There is a small suggested fee ($3.00) per use that you can pay at the kiosk near the parking area in the middle of the conservation area or you can support this conservation and education effort with a yearly membership contribution... For a map and their website see: https://yamhillswcd.org/miller-woods/ We can show you a short connecting trail between our road and one of the trails in this conservation area or you can drive around to the entrance and park at the kiosk area.

There are about 4 miles of trails through woods and meadows that are open to anyone willing to be courteous of the rule of silence when immediately near the Abbey its and grounds. The trail head is on the opposite end of the parking lot from the entrance. The main trail branches off to several potential loop trails. Though we have never asked, it is rumored there are maps available at the abbey. One trail leads to the top of the hill behind the abbey (an 815 ft. elevation gain) with great views and a shrine for prayer for those interested. The abbey is about 15-20 minutes from McMinnville. It has a Carlton address but is closer to Lafayette. This abbey is also known because of its vocation as a book bindery.

There are miles of trails through this wildlife refuge. Some are open year-round. They wind up and down hills, around ponds/lakes, and through meadows and woodland. In the spring thousands and thousands of geese descend in the area. There are spottings and signs of wildlife year round. This destination is about 25-30 minutes from McMinnville.

This is an out of the way, but easy, 2 mile round-trip hike. The falls are well worth taking the trouble to get to! There are additional falls a little further up the trail that are also beautiful though very different. These falls are a little more than an hour north-west of McMinnville. Around half of that time is due to eventually having to drive very slowly on a scenic dirt road to get there. We made it in our Saturn--a jeep is not necessarily required--unless its muddy (during the rainy season).

Recreational

This is an indoor waterpark with several full-on, large waterslides. I'm not sure why it is part of the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum complex, but maybe it is so while some are at the museum, others who don't want to "museum" can play at an awesome waterpark instead?

Bicycle/Pedestrian Paths

This is a landscaped and lighted greenway is an "off-road corridor" through a pleasant residential area in McMinnville. It is about 1.31 miles total (one-way) of "wide, hard-surface pathway for walkers, joggers and bicycle riders. Benches are provided throughout and a boardwalk traverses the wetland area located about mid-corridor. A short (.08 mile) steep, soft-trail hillside connection with some stair-steps is provided above Wallace Road." The north access is just off NW Baker Creek Rd on NW Meadows Rd. "The 'Second Street access' to the greenway is on NW Meadows Drive approximately 100’ north from the intersection of Meadows Drive and Second Street (behind the McMinnville Water and Light power substation). Dogs must remain leashed (off-leash activity prohibited)."

Over five miles of loops of scenic biking/walking trails along the river and in the woods. We like to drive to Wheatland (enter this and not the park into your GPS) and take the ferry across to the park (bring cash, $1.00 for bikes, free for peds, $3.00 for cars). Many folks like to swim and play on the river beaches on both sides of the river near the Ferry.
