One of the finest stone circles in the north of England, Long Meg and Her Daughters stone circle has a diameter of about 350 feet, the second biggest in the country. Long Meg is the tallest of the 69 stones, about 12 feet high, with three mysterious symbols, its four corners facing the points of the compass and standing some 60 feet outside the circle.

Restored in 1975 by Ana and Nick Jones, they are Cumbria's only fully operational watermill, committed to the production of high quality flour using British grain. With the help of a small, dedicated team of people, this business and its products are both unique and special. Currently they are producing a wide range of biodynamic and organic stoneground flours milled the traditional way using clean, self-renewing waterpower.

Ullswater is the second largest lake in the Lake District at 7.5 miles long. It is on average 3/4 mile wide and has a maximum depth of 205 feet at Howtown. The lake has three distinct bends giving it a dog’s leg appearance.
On Ullswater Lake there is Ullswater Cruises operate two diesel craft ‘Raven’ and ‘Lady of the Lake’ during the summmertime.
Possibly the best lakeshore walk is found on the south eastern shore, between Howtown and Glenridding – two of the three stopping points for the boats, with striking views across Ullswater’s most attractive section.
Boat hire is available on the lake shores as well as sailing and windsurfing courses. The Glenridding Sailing Centre (external link) is located on the Spit at Glenridding and hires out kayaks, Canadian Canoes, sailing dinghies and traditional boats as well as offering tuition.

After the exercise you have earned the right to taste some of Cumbria’s finest food in our specialist shops, local farmers’ markets, restaurants, tea rooms and pubs. We can point you in the right direction!

Eden Ostrich World, the Alpaca Centre, historic houses and gardens, slate mines in the Lakelands, the South Tynedale & Eden Valley railways, Wetheriggs Pottery, Rheged a grass covered building with a cinema screen the size of six double decker buses. Also Aira Force, Alston, Appleby-in-Westmoreland, Ashgill Falls, Blencathra, Cross Fell, Eden Monuments, Haweswater, High Street, Kirkby Stephen, Lacy's Caves, Long Meg & her Daughters, Penrith, Pooley Bridge, Howtown and Glenridding on Ullswater are all in Eden.

If you wish to sit back and relax and watch the scenery drift by, then hop on board the picturesque Carlisle - Settle Railway. Langwathby station is a short walk away. Steam trains occasionally go along this line too.

Enjoy the great outdoors in Eden; you can take a different walk each day and follow the footsteps of Wainwright. There are indoor swimming pools in Appleby & Penrith and outdoor pools in Askham, Hunsonby, Lazonby & Shap.
