Georgia's highest state park encompasses some of the most outstanding scenery in Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Roadside overlooks provide spectacular 80-mile vistas, and four hiking trails lead visitors past wildflowers, streams, small waterfalls and lush forests. Visitors enjoy the summit visitor center for its views, gift shop and picnic tables.
Mountaintop cottages surround a small playground, while campsites are nestled under rhododendron and gnarled oaks. Tent campers will appreciate the walk-in sites that allow extra privacy. The park’s small lake is popular with anglers and circled by an easy walking trail. At an altitude of 3,640 feet, Black Rock Mountain is often cooler than other Georgia parks and may close during icy weather. RVers should be comfortable driving on steep, winding roads.

Minnehaha Falls is buried in a wide, steep-sided cove packed with rhododendron, making this an exceptionally beautiful hike in mid-to-late May, when the rhododendron bloom. This falls trail, which is run by the Forest Service, should not be confused with Minnehaha Falls in Minnesota, which is in a park run by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. The rolling southern Appalachian Mountains, weathered by time, surround the summit, creating an endless panoramic view that’s stunning no matter where you turn. A hike on the Bartram Trail to Rabun Bald offers a generous dose of serenity and a gorgeous dose of natural beauty from a soaring summit, the second highest in Georgia.
Georgia’s loftiest peak, Brasstown Bald, offers equally stunning, see-forever views. But unlike Rabun Bald, there’s paved access to Brasstown’s summit. While Rabun Bald is often quiet and serene, Brasstown Bald is often crowded by visitors by the buss-load (literally). Access to Rabun Bald requires a bit more effort – but the payoff seems so much sweeter, the views just a bit better given the hike to reach the summit.
The hike departs a quiet, upscale neighborhood near the end of a gravel road (view maps and driving directions). The hike veers left to follow a green-blazed trail, an access trail to the nearby Bartram Trail. (A gravel road veers to the right; take the trail to the left.) The trail immediately grabs elevation, beginning to climb Rabun Bald’s lower elevations through a forest dense with rhododendron and mountain laurel.

The house was used as a school house for all of the children of the White family clan that moved to the area from Ireland in 1827. When Mrs. White desired a “summer home” in the mountains, John R. suggested she could move the old school house. Mr. White had already replaced the families living quarters with a beautiful Romanesque, Georgian mansion. It is now the current home of The Univ. of GA’s Warnell Forestry School outside of Athens, GA. See more>
Mrs. White carefully numbered the boards of the house, dismantled it and loaded it on the railroad which brought it to Mountain City, GA. Once there, she re- loaded it to a mule train and had it delivered to the hilltop it sits upon in Dillard, GA. This phenomenal achievement took place in 1906. She had it carefully re-constructed and members and friends of the White family spent years making memories and enjoying the beautiful view of the North Georgia Mountains from the front porch."

Owners Stephen & Jane Tomlin have been winning awards at BBQ Competitions throughout the Southeast since 1997. In 2005 they decided to go public with their BBQ and opened their Little Red BBQ Shack at Osage Farms Produce Market, where they serve up some of the best pulled pork, ribs, chicken, brisket and smoked turkey you’ve ever tasted. These are all served up with their signature “Georgia Vinegar BBQ Sauce. You can also find a Hot BBQ sauce and a brand new sauce for the Tomlins’ a classic Mustard BBQ sauce. All the delicious sides that are served at the BBQ Shack are fresh and homemade from scratch.

Owners Stephen & Jane Tomlin have been winning awards at BBQ Competitions throughout the Southeast since 1997. In 2005 they decided to go public with their BBQ and opened their Little Red BBQ Shack at Osage Farms Produce Market, where they serve up some of the best pulled pork, ribs, chicken, brisket and smoked turkey you’ve ever tasted. These are all served up with their signature “Georgia Vinegar BBQ Sauce. You can also find a Hot BBQ sauce and a brand new sauce for the Tomlins’ a classic Mustard BBQ sauce. All the delicious sides that are served at the BBQ Shack are fresh and homemade from scratch.
June of 2009 the Tomlins’ were selected as one of the top 5 Pulled Pork Sandwiches in America on LIVE with Regis & Kelly’s “Ultimate Hometown Grilling Challenge.
