Over the last 30 years, the city has transformed this abandoned railyard into The Forks, Winnipeg’s foremost destination, with this set of goals in mind:
The Forks shall be developed as a meeting place a special and distinct, all-season gathering and recreational place at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, through a mixed-use approach including recreational, historical and cultural, institutional and supportive commercial uses.
Over 4 million visitors come to The Forks each year and more than 1,200 people work on this site. The Forks contributes over $126 million a year to the local economy, and is financially self-sufficient - we do not rely on government funding to operate.
The Forks is governed by a board made up of representatives appointed by the civic, provincial and municipal governments.

They attend the festival every year for it’s traditional french-canadian food, music and heritage (aka: a toe tapin’ good time!).
The festival is operated by Festival du Voyageur inc., a community non-profit organization. It’s mandate is to promote joie de vivre and extend the reach of French language and culture throughout the year through artistic, educational, historical and cultural experiences inspired by the voyageur era.
Tents are erected for the event around the historic Fort Gibraltar. Highlights of the festival include music, children’s activities, a rich interpretive program, a Beard Growing Contest, Fiddling & Jigging Contests and the International Snow Sculpting Symposium.

Featuring hills and ridges formed by ancient glaciers, this 35 sq km/22 sq mi park has a lake, oak and aspen forests, native prairie wildflowers (including several species of rare orchids), deer, waterfowl and songbirds.
Wander through the wild flowers. Climb to the top of the viewing tower and you'll see for miles. Walk, cycle, horseback ride through a network of trails that will take you anywhere and everywhere.
Facilities include camping, swimming, picnic sites, fishing a riding stable, a restaurant, a beach concession and a convenience store.
There are 30 km/18.5 mi of trails for walking, hiking and cross-country skiing and a 7.2 km/4.5 mi paved bicycle and roller blading trails.
Interpretive programs are available on a year-round basis for groups of all ages. Every July the park hosts the Winnipeg Folk Festival.
