Marijuana is legal in Massachusetts! I have only been here once, and I do not myself enjoy the company of Mary Jane, but it was a friendly and pleasant experience. Tip: order online and skip the line—just pick up when you get there. There is a fee if you pay with a card, so bring cash. There is an ATM there, but it also charges a pretty hefty fee.

This place is SO awesome. It is an orchard, and much more. It boasts a unique and extensive sculpture garden that meanders among the apple trees (the mirror house is my favorite sculpture), awesome drinks and sweets. It is peaceful and charming and a little slice of Western Mass heaven! I have even done a poetry reading here. A must-see for sure!!

It boasts a unique and extensive sculpture garden that meanders among the apple trees (the mirror house is my favorite sculpture), awesome drinks and sweets. It is peaceful and charming and a little slice of Western Mass heaven! I have even done a poetry reading here. A must-see for sure!!

Best ice cream in the Pioneer Valley! Forget Herrell’s—THIS is the place! The shop isn’t fancy on the inside, but they boast some of the most unique flavors (from lavender to rainbow poop!), and the most balanced flavor profile you’ll encounter. The ice cream isn’t packed with sugar, so the aromas come through beautifully. I recommend the black cherry. Like candy? They also have a great candy section!

The Hideaway is attached to the more family-friendly Riff’s Joint. It’s dark and bar-y, and has a pretty good spirits list. Adequate ambience, and reasonable prices. Food is the same as what’s served at Riff’s, just without the children.

This is a super freaking cute place, with a cool menu and vibe. A little hot on the wallet, though, if you’re having dinner. Coco is only open from weds-sun, but I have heard great things about the buttermilk fried chicken (I’m a pescatarian). I was impressed with their menu, and they definitely have some of the most skilled mixologists behind the bar. Great ambience, and pretty accommodating of food allergies (if you ask nicely). The cellar bar can be a little musty at times, but has a great beer list, albeit a slightly hipster/too-cool feel.

This is the best espresso you’ll find in Easthampton! The baked goods and breakfast sandwiches are decadent—treat yourself! The “compost” cookie is a favorite of mine, and the egg and cheese breakfast sandwich with jalapeño. Yum!

I’m from NYC, so I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that these are the best bagels, but Tandem is a very good local staple! I recommend going early if you want your pick of the day’s bagels (as with any bagel place). I enjoy the French toast bagel. I also like to order the oatmeal with fruit sometimes—warm and filling. They have a nice outdoor seating space, and it’s great to sit out there in the spring and summer and have breakfast among the locals. I haven’t had their coffee, but for my fellow tea drinkers, they have a good tea selection—Mighty Leaf, I think!

An important note to people of color traveling to this town: the police department is VERY RACIST. Obey all speed limits to the mile, and observe all posted signs. They have nothing better to do, and they are angry about gentrification and taking it out on brown people. I’m sorry.
