The Phoenix Park is a 20 minute walk away where you can visit Dublin Zoo and The presidents official residence.
You could hire a bike at the main entrance and spend some time visiting the Famous Deer or visit Farmleigh House.

Fantastic for those rainy days with some top class modern art. A must see for any traveler with an interest in Ireland and it’s heritage. Royal Hospital Kilmainham , South Circular Road at Kilmainham Lane. Opened as a home for old soldiers in 1680, it now houses the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Beautiful building with formal gardens, free admission, closed Mondays. (rhk.ie, imma.ie)

Buried deep in the park you will find Farmleigh House which was formerly a Guinness family house and is open for guided tours. There's a nice café here and gardens but it is not easy to get to and requires some pre planning.
