Walk around the corner to a packed fresh-food market. Vendors yell prices in different languages, wedges of ripe avocado and feijoas are passed around for tasting. D&K Live Seafood, a narrow, bright-blue aquarium on Leeds Street, has live tanks holding mud crabs the size of toy poodles.

The surrounding Yarraville Village has a range of food and drink options, perfect for making a night of it, if you happen to head over here.

Perfectly located between the apartment and the train station, Guerilla Espresso is a great place to place to satisfy your caffeine fix. It's a must try! Guerilla’s menu is a tight edit of cafe must-haves, with freshly pressed juices, organic crumpets and toasties (ham and gruyere ftw!)

In addition to burgers made with beef, fried chicken and crumbed mushroom, the kitchen serves all manner of classic artery-cloggers: fries, shakes, dogs, tater tots and soft-serve.

Cosy – bench seating invites the afternoon sun through the front window and there are a handful of small tables and chairs. There’s also a nice communal table to spread out

Happy River Cafe has one of the best views in Footscray. The bluestone building is on a hill overlooking the Maribyrnong River and the city, away from the bustle of Footscray. This cafe is family friendly :-)

The Malaysian-Chinese interior design is a little mismatched, there’s nothing confused about the food here. There’s a theatre element too – watching the chefs and roti wizards stretch and spin endless amounts of dough is part of the experience. Dip your roti into a tray of dhal, curry, sambal or my favourite - peanut sauce.

Sapa hills is one of the more polished restaurants in the area, it's also one of the more popular. The food is fresh and carefully made. Try anything form their speciality menu.
Hands down the best bánh mi in the West. Splurge $5 of the meat rolls (meatball is a personal favourite). I often run down here after cleaning the apartment between guests. Fresh, tasty and cheap. Highly recommended.
