Authentic Western atmosphere. The usual burgers, barbeque, salads and sandwiches. The service is not exactly lightning-quick, but the food is quite good. Especially noteworthy are the ribs and wings. Massive selection of beers on tap. Can get insanely packed in the evening. Note: The Saloon does not allow minors in the evening.

The lines to get into the park are growing longer. If you can't get in early, then try to the 29 Palms entrance. Most of the popular hikes are closer to the Joshua Tree entrance but the 29 Palms entrance does offer up the less trodden trails, as well. The most popular "greatest hits" trails include Hidden Valley, Barker Dam, Keys View, Ryan Mountain and Wall Street Mill. If you get inside towards the late afternoon, no worries--a drive around the park taking in the Wonderland of Rock and all the boulder formations is just as rewarding as a hike.
