If you want you can go by train to Vila Rea de Santo António. It is really nice though it takes a few hours as the train stops in every station.
In Vila Real you have some nice restaurants, I recommend Caves for portuguese food and the best cocktail can be found in the Grand Hotel Algarve. The bar is in in 20 th Century style and open from 3pm.
You have lots of shops and some really nice markets there, especially if you like antique markets, this is a must
