Bar Cecil (pronounced sessel) is a homage to Cecil Beaton, a renaissance man who was equal parts rebel and aristocrat, an artist who lived between classical charm and new world rebellion, a provocateur, an Expressionist, and an aesthete who incorporated many mediums to create a style all his own. Bar Cecil is a love letter to Beaton’s vision of life and art: a celebration of what’s good, of eliminating that which is only pomp, and in the process creating memories through food, drink and hospitality. Bar Cecil is for those who follow the beat to their own drum, horn or whatever inspires them to create, to be individuals, and to embrace diversity. New hot spot for 2022 in Palm Springs. Great food and cocktails. Make sure to get a reservation in advance in season

One of the best restaurants in Palm Springs! Miro, his wife Mirela, and mother Tidja, as well as the rest of the family, have combined homestyle cooking in their corner restaurant, tucked in the beautiful Plaza del Sol in South Palm Springs. The restaurant first opened in 1994, shortly after the Terzic family immigrated from Mostar, Yugoslavia when Slavic, Hungarian, Italian, Greek and German styles of cooking became a welcome addition to the Palm Springs culinary market. Consistency and food quality, as well as endless devoted hours, gave the family a chance to double their space in 1997. Miro’s has grown into an establishment with recognizable elegance, great tasting food, and prompt and friendly service, which even earned the family the front page of the food section of LA Times Thanksgiving Issue in 1999, as well as number of rave reviews by the local food critics. We’re very excited to share our new menu and wine list for the upcoming season. Take a moment to scroll through our selection of rare bottles from far away lands. We have a full service bar and selected unique wines from Austria, Croatian Islands and Bosnia Herzegovina, to ensure your evening with us is a memorable one. Voted # 1 by the Desert Sun readers in 2007 and ranked #1 out of 247 restaurants in Palm Springs on TripAdvisor, our homestyle soups, pastries and carefully crafted recipes from the Mediterranean and Central Europe, draw attention from locals and tourists alike.

Located near the entrance of Joshua Tree and a must see! Pioneertown was established in 1946 when Dick Curtis shared his dream for a "Living Breathing Movie Set". Shortly after, seventeen investors including Curtis, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, The Sons Of The Pioneers, Russell Hayden, Frank McDonald, Tommy Carr, Terry Frost, and Bud Abbott each invested $500 and incorporated. The company then purchased 32,ooo Acres of land which would soon be known as Pioneertown. Their goal was simple and unique: to create a place where they could work (and play) with friends, family and co-workers. A functioning 188o's themed town which was easily accessible from both Los Angeles & Palm Springs and would serve as a filming location, vacation destination & permanent residence for people working in the entertainment industry, ranchers and desert lovers alike. Originally they had planned to call the town "Rogersville" in honor of the Roy Rogers' singing group (and fellow investors) The Sons of The Pioneers. However, a member of the group named Tim Spenser wrote a catchy tune by the name of "Out in Pioneertown" to help promote the endeavor. They recorded the song the following year. It was that catchy tune which gave birth to the name "Pioneertown". Eager to begin construction, they broke first ground on September 1st, 1946. The San Bernardino County Sun ran a full-page ad on March 25th, 1947 which invited people to invest in Pioneertown along with Dale Evans, Roy Rogers & The Sons Of The Pioneers. The first structures established were fully functional businesses which included White’s Grocery, the Townhouse Motel, the Red Dog Saloon, the Golden Stallion Restaurant, Maggie’s Feed Barn, Nell’s Ice Cream Palace, Pioneertown Likker, the Klip ‘N’ Kurl Beauty Shop, Pioneer Bowl, Trigger Bill’s Shooting Gallery & the Pioneertown Gazette; just to name a few. Ranch sites with utilities available and road access already established were offered starting as low as $9oo for over an acre of land! Pioneertown became a fully functioning town with an established community and big plans for fast expansion. Those grand plans to expand were short lived however, as Dick Curtis stepped down from President in 1948 after the corporation decided to put community production on the back burner and focus strictly on catering to production companies. Immediately, both land sales and productions plummeted. Just when it seemed like the dream was already beginning to fade, a movie producer by the name of Philip N. Krasne who was producing the Cisco Kid series happened to travel through town. He enjoyed the place quite a lot. Well enough, in fact, to sign a 25 year lease which renewed interest & development in Pioneertown. More than 5o films & serials were filmed in Pioneertown during the 194o's and 195o's. There have been over 2oo productions in town - the total number is unknown as entertainment production records were not as well documented as they are these days. All of the Gene Autry Flying A television productions through the 195o’s were shot here; the Pioneertown Bowling Alley being a favorite filming location of Autry's. Some other local titles were “Cisco Kid”, “The Range Rider”, “Annie Oakley”, “Cody of the Pony Express”, “The Adventures of Judge Roy Bean” and “Buffalo Bill Jr.” As it sits on a movie set; the Pioneertown Post Office is said to be the most photographed PO in the USA! While Pioneertown thrived; the means to expand further were simply not available. A lack of safe water, something that was unforeseeable at the time of the town's conception, would ultimately condemn all plans for a proposed 4o acre lake, a golf course, an airport and a shopping center. As the golden age of western films came to an end, so too did the abundant production work in town. Over the years businesses have dwindled and thrived, back and forth. But the die-hard community has always remained committed to keeping Pioneertown alive. And while a demand for western filming locations has died down; the town is still a fully functioning production set where movies, independent films, music videos and commercials are filmed every month.

Drive by and check out the vacation home of Frank Sinatra from 1947 to around 1955. Note this is not the famous compound in Rancho Mirage that he lived from 1956-1994.
This was his home in Rancho Mirage is as much a private residence today as it was when Sinatra lived there from 1954 – 1995. The reason usually given for Sinatra’s move a few miles away was because “Palm Springs was getting too crowded.” It wasn’t quite that simple. He and Ava Gardner were calling it quits in 1953 – she filed for divorce in 1954 – and Sinatra’s career was in trouble. The ‘Twin Palms’ home was a regular reminder of his recent personal and professional problems, so he sold the house in April 1953. This was his home in Rancho Mirage is as much a private residence today as it was when Sinatra lived there from 1954 – 1995. The reason usually given for Sinatra’s move a few miles away was because “Palm Springs was getting too crowded.” It wasn’t quite that simple. The City of Palm Springs opened its new skate park in December 2003. The park is located adjacent to the City’s swim center in Sunrise Plaza at 401 South Pavilion Way. The formal dedication ceremony was conducted on January 17, 2004 by the Honorable Ron Oden, Mayor of Palm Springs. By the time the park was dedicated, it was already considered by many to be one of best, if not “the best,” skate parks in the State of California. The skate park project took several years to become a reality by the City due to a considerable amount of careful planning, innovative design concepts and features the City Council demanded be part of the final product. Early on in the process, local skaters were involved with the design team to ensure that the park featured all of the elements they wanted to see in the project. Skater involvement helped the City develop a park that incorporates the type of skating surface they wanted, the features they desired and even replicas of the long forgotten pools which launched the popularity of skateboarding in the early 1970s. All of these steps led to the development of one of the finest skate parks in Southern California. It is a genuine treasure that the City of Palm Springs is proud to call the Palm Springs Skate Park.
