(but then I knew the gas station up the street as Bob Mcvey's Amoco) Now owned by Harry's ex and her family, the place has moved from being a sandwich shop at the back of a convenient shop where you could get a key made and grab lunch. Recently, they made space for tables and added to the menu. I still go there every chance I get to get a proper whole muffaletta, they do offer halves, and I get mine spicy.

Jerry’s also serves burgers, hot dogs, nachos, and traditional concession fare, but Delta-style chicken tamales are the most popular menu item.

For something a little different, try Belly Acres, a fast-casual concept with a focus on using meats and produce grown on farms with sustainable growing practices. All 12 of their signature burgers are made with grass-fed beef, and there are three beefless burgers (portabello mushroom, black-eyed pea, and lentil & caramelized onion). Burger toppings range from pickled collard greens, to pork belly, to jalapeño jam, to maple ketchup. Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park

Much of the terrain is made up of a roller-coaster of hills, making the area a favorite for local mountain bikers and hikers. But it’s also perfect for getting in that dreaded hill practice.

The path runs past several city parks, those looking for a longer route can take stairs or a land bridge over busy Riverside Dr into Tom Lee Park, the city’s riverfront park. Tom Lee features a couple miles of sidewalk that run along the river’s edge, as well as public restrooms and the Riverfront Bar & Grill, where runners can stop in for a post-run beer and meal. Bonus: the steep staircase connecting Butler Park to Tom Lee Park offers a great “stadium stair”-style workout.
