Restaurant
Kyneton is spoilt with a number of excellent venues to dine: Midnight Starling, Spaghetti Bar, Miss M’s Lounge, Tansy’s, Fook Shing, The Oaks Grill on Piper. More casual venues include Dhabba at the Mill (Indian cuisine), Little Swallow, My Flippin Kitchen, Duck Duck Goose and Larder or a burger from Major Tom’s.
And then there’s the extra attraction of The Lake House, Bistro Terroir and Beppi in Daylesford, The Surly Goat in Hepburn and Annie Smithers’s du Fermier in Trentham. Bookings always recommended.

Tansy was named a member of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival Legends Hall of Fame in 2020: she trained many of Victoria’s finest chefs (Andrew McConnell of Cutler and Co and Super Normal, TV host Karen Martini, Rita Macali of Super Maxi to name three) and her Carlton restaurant Tansy’s held three hats in the Age Good Food Guide for eleven consecutive years in the 1980s and 1990s. Tansy’s today is an intimate restaurant offering a small menu of classic modern French cuisine. Phone bookings essential.

Kyneton has a number of pubs but frankly the following venues are the pick of the best places in town to quench a thirst. Our favourite bars, in no particular order, are Animus, Botanik, Miss M’s, The Oaks Grill on Piper, Fook Shing. (A recent change in ownership at the Kyneton Hotel, 98-100 Mollison Street, Kyneton, could mean we finally have a good traditional pub in town; watch this space).

There’s plenty of attractions in Kyneton and around the Macedon Ranges and beyond; vineyards, public and private gardens, natural features (Trentham Falls, Metcalfe Cascades, Loddon Falls, Hanging Rock, Mount Macedon walking trails, Kyneton River Walk to mention a few. Then there’s a number of historic villages nearby, with early colonial architecture and offer a small gallery or cafe to offer extra interest.
The Domino Rail Trail runs between Lyonville and Trentham (but could be extended if a proposal is adopted for the trail to go through to Woodend). The Domino TrailThe Domino Rail Trail runs between Lyonville and Trentham (but could be extended if a proposal is adopted for the trail to go through to Woodend). A gentle walk through native forest and farmland, with the added attraction of pubs in both towns to quench both thirst and appetite (the Cosmopolitan in Trentham and the Radio Springs in Lyonville).

Loddon Falls are located twenty minutes from Kyneton near the historic hamlet of Glenlyon; the Charming Glenlyon General Store offers simple meals either indoors or in the courtyard garden or head tomDaylesford after you’ve inspected the Falls for a range of dining options including The Lake House, Bistro Terroir, Surly Goat and Beppi’s. Care should be taken at the Falls; there are steep cliffs and no fencing.
