Quail Island has a varied and interesting history as a Quarantine Island for early immigrants. Husky dogs going to Antarctica were trained there. Twenty years ago regeneration of the native bush started with over 100,000 planted to date.

Beautiful views of Lyttelton Harbour and the surrounding landscapes.
Black Cat Ferry runs every day from Lyttelton. The boat ride is great on a hot day if you get can a seat outside.
The Diamond Harbour Eatery and Bar also has coffee or a delicious ice cream.
In the summer months there are often very popular free music concerts at the park, on the point, on Sunday afternoons.
Be sure to find the Margaret Stoddart Cottage, craft and art Gallery in the township.
A small sheltered beach can also be found by walking down a steep narrow path which will require sensible shoes. There are also other walks around this area.
