This grocery store is about 5 minutes from the house, in the same general location as Pemaquid Craft Co-Op (at the intersection of Snowball Hill Road and Bristol Road). They have pretty much everything you’d need to make a meal (the basics and a bit more) or provision for a longer stay. Their prices are comparable to the Hannaford’s in Damariscotta. Pro tip - they close at 6pm each night.

Located ten miles off the coast, Monhegan has been a summer haven for artists for more than a century. Take the ferry from the wharf at Shaw’s restaurant in New Harbor to enjoy its slow pace and car-free dirt roads. The hiking through the forests shouldn’t be missed and make sure to stop by The Novelty for Ice Cream and Pizza as well as Monhegan Brewing for some of their great beer while you’re there. Hardy Boat Cruises (www.hardyboat.com) will get you there (and back!) but make sure to make reservations well in advance as they do book up. The boat ride takes about an hour one way. Pro Tip - make sure to check the weather the day before you go - the boat ride can be an adventure in rainy weather or after a storm.

This (almost literally) hidden treasure is a blast for kids. Scramble down a rocky path to this rocky beach at low tide and you may be lucky enough to find sea glass and marbles scattered around the rocks. The story goes that in the late 1800s a ship sunk near the lighthouse and lost a shipment of marbles and to this day they’re still washing up in this cove. True or not, this is a fun activity for kids of all ages, but note that the scramble down and back up isn’t for those that are unsteady on their feet. Check the tides to make sure it’s low tide before you go. This is located in the parking lot at the end of Pemaquid Loop Road and the trail heads down from the (very small) parking area.
