St. Mary entrance of Glacier National Park and Going to the Sun Road are located just 10 miles down Hwy 89. St. Mary has 2 gas stations, several restaurants, a bar, a big lodge, and is one of the main entrances to Glacier National Park.

Glacier Park Boat Co. is a great way to see and experience the park! While on the boat, they give you a brief history of the area and the views are insanely epic. You can also take this boat across the lake to cut a couple miles off Grinnell Glacier hike. Kayak and canoe rentals are available, too. It is located in front of Many Glacier Hotel.

Many Glacier, Glacier National Park, is located about 15-20 minutes from my house and is a must see if you're in the area! Incredible views, wildlife, a beautiful historic lodge, restaurants, and most importantly, hiking!

Rising sun campground has a boat dock across the street and they host boat tours of upper Saint Mary lake. The captains are amazing and have a wide knowledge to share with the guests.

Hiking
Iceberg lake is 4.8 miles (one way) with about 1200ft of elevation gain along the way and offers stunning views of Glacier National Park. Bear spray is highly recommended on all trails in the park.

This is your chance to see a real glacier up close! Another one of my favorite trails in the park. This trail is about 5.3 miles (one way) with 1600ft of elevation gain. A strenuous day hike consisting of crazy beautiful views the entire time!

A peaceful walk through the woods leads to a beautiful glacier silt ridden lake tucked back and surrounded by mountains on all sides. This trail is shared by horses, so be prepared, it might smell a little bit.

This short 1 mile (one way) trail with 700ft of elevation leads to a beautiful waterfall! One of my favorite waterfalls in the park! Be prepared, although short, this hike is strenuous.

Across from Thronson's General Store is a self serve gas station. If you're planning a trip to Canada, be sure and fill up! This is the last gas station before the border and gas can be pricey in Canada. Browning is also a 45 minute drive to town. Don't risk running out of fuel; road side assistance can take 4-8 hrs to get out here.

You're on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation
The Blackfeet Indian Reservation consists of 1.4 million acres and borders the Eastern Side of Glacier National Park. While you're visiting, please respect the land and the people. If you're interested in reading more about the Tribe and their history, I have a book in the house you can check out!

Unpredictable Weather
You're in Montana now and it can snow in August! Always be prepared and pack some warm clothes in your day pack. Temperatures tend to drop in the evenings and it is always nice to have some long pants and a jacket.

The Closest Walmart is 2.5 hrs away!
My house is located in the middle of nowhere with the closest Walmart being about 2.5 hours away. Plan accordingly please. Thronson's General Store conveniently has many food options available but isn't a large grocery store. St. Mary Grocery store , about 10 miles to the south has limited groceries at very inflated prices. About 50 minutes to the east, there are 2 grocery stores in Browning as well.

Possible Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis)!!!!!!
You have the potential to see the Northern Lights from my back porch! I use an app on my phone called Aurora (its purple) to check the predictions on my phone. Turn off all the lights in the house and let your eyes adjust for about 10 minutes and let the lightshow begin!

Limited Cell Service!!!
Cell service on the East side of Glacier National Park (all areas West of Browning) is limited to Verizon. I have heard that people who have Sprint also have service but I can't verify this personally.
