Timberline Lodge stands tall at the 6,000 feet mark on Mount Hood, originally constructed in 1937 with immense help from the Federal Arts Project. This historic building is publicly open for tours ran by volunteers with the Zigzag Ranger Station. You may recognize the exterior from the award winning classic from Stanley Kubrick, The Shining. Don't worry - the maze from the movie was filmed in England!

This short, kid-friendly hike is easily accessible off of Kiwanis Camp Road and only needs a Forest Recreation pass to park at. Round trip is 1 mile, and the Forest Recreation pass is $5 a day, or $30 a year. This is a great short hike to let the kids stretch their legs without standing around in front of a restaurant!

Ski/Snowboarding

Mt. Hood Skibowl’s origin dates back to 1928, making the resort one of the oldest remaining ski resorts in the country. The ski area began as two separate resorts Skibowl and Multorpor. While Skibowl’s name was derived from the natural shape of it’s Upper Bowl, Multorpor’s name came from the combination Multnomah County, Oregon and Portland. In 1987, Kirk Hanna purchased Skibowl out of bankruptcy and formed H-Ski Corporation. He then made major improvements to the resort by adding the 300 acre outback, cutting the Olympic Certified Reynolds Run and expanding the night skiing to 34 lit runs making Skibowl “America’s Largest Night Ski Area”.

Book your stay at least two months in advance

Regardless of where you stay, we recommend you book your stay at least two months in advance. This will allow ample availability for most properties, houses, & rooms, with less chance of someone renting out from underneath you. Trying to book within 30 days, there is always a chance that someone may book that location out from under you without your knowledge (y'know, you get to the last page, and it kicks you out?).
Közlekedés

Definitely use Mt. Hood Express

If you're traveling from Government Camp to the mountain, parking can be really limited! Mt. Hood Express runs several times daily, with the last late run from Timberline Lodge at 10:15pm. This bus will get you all the way from Timberline back to Sandy, with stops along the way at Collins Lake Resort, Skibowl, Welches, Rhododendron, and Brightwood. https://www.mthoodexpress.com/

Staying in a full house? Bring groceries from Sandy!

While there is the Govy General in town, and Thriftway in Mount Hood Village, grocery selection is far better in Sandy. Schedule your grocery pick up as you make your way up the mountain at the Sandy Fred Meyer or Safeway to make your trip as easy as possible! There is also a Grocery Outlet, which always has great discounts on local favorites.
