Braemar is surrounded by hills and mountains and is one of the coldest places in the UK in the winter. It is a lovely small town with shops, restaurants and ‘grand’ hotels. The surrounding scenery is spectacular. Plenty of walks. Golf course.

It’s a bit of a drive away, but is usually a quiet, peaceful place. It’s nice to drive around the loch or head up to the remote Rannoch Train Station where there is a tearoom (advisable to check opening hours).

It’s relatively unknown and is a lovely place to relax and appreciate light, which is what is was designed for. Well worth visiting.

Situated in the County of Angus, the views at this memorial monument are amazing. It takes about half an hour to walk up the fairly steep path to it. Carpark just off the road below.
