Great bar, friendly staff, local produce, interesting and varied mennu items often with a fusion twist, vegan, vegetarian. One of our favorite places to have a relaxed and casual supper out. Open Thursday-Sunday 5-8.

Working extensively with local farms, the Blue Heron in Sunderland, a semi finalist in the James Beard Foundation Awards in 2022, is the spot for something upscale and special. Outdoor and indoor dining, seasonal and classic cocktails, solid wine list, stellar service. We love the open view kitchen.

Memorial Hall Museum on Memorial Street is the oldest museum association in New England. It is housed in the first building of Deerfield Academy, 1798-1878.
Free admission (but donations happily received), a sweet little gift shop, and three floors that tell the fascinating history of Deerfield with quirky, intriguing, and stunning exhibits. The area history of African Americans and Indigenous People are interpreted here. Quilts, farming and domestic implements, paintings, furniture, musical instruments, and the oldest rag doll in America: Bangwell Putt. Just a delight to wander through.

UMass has its Museum of Contemporary Art, and at Amherst College you can view its eclectic art collection at the Mead Art Museum. The Beneski Museum of Natural History is also housed at Amherst College and showcases area fossils and minerals.
Emily Dickinson's home is open as a museum and the docents afford a wonderful glimpse into her reclusive life.

A marvelous permanent collection in a very manageable space. The artwork glides across periods and geographies, from ancient Greek vases to modern video art. The collection is always being rotated so there is always something fresh to see, and the special exhibitions are invariably utterly dynamic.

In our top ten of all-time favorite museums, the Clark is about an hour away along Rte 2 W. The drive itself is beautiful, but this museum has it all - decorative arts, European and American paintings, sculptures, silver, ceramics, from the Renaissance to the early 20th-century.
You will be bowled over by the artwork you see here! Unexpected treasures in every gallery and the museum surrounds are gorgeous.
