Just 10 minutes away, this is a must-visit breakfast spot! It’s a diner-ish super-casual local restaurant that serves up a great hearty breakfast with locally-sourced ingredients. Ask about their specials, which are usually awesome. You can add whatever you want to their home fries. They are only open for breakfast and lunch (and you can get breakfast at lunchtime too!). They are always packed.

This is a great little Mexican restaurant in historic Wolfeboro (which is a great area to visit for an afternoon before dinner). The restaurant is very small, so call ahead for reservations. The tacos are killer (try the Al Pastore and Cochinito Pibil tacos). The jalapeño margaritas are some of the best we have had (I'm not easily impressed with margaritas at restaurants. They also have an outdoor patio that's open during the warmer months.

Guests recommended this to us. This is the nicest restaurant we’ve found within 20 minutes of the house. The food is amazing. The torchon de foie gras, beef tartare, Brussels sprouts were stand outs, but every single thing was excellent when we were there, as was the service. Nice atmosphere also. Great spot for a date night.

It’s always fun to visit a brewery try their beers & cider, but we come here for their in-house cured and smoked meats and pickled vegetables. They offer plates and sandwiches featuring things like pulled pork, brisket, and pork belly and their fermented kimchi and pickles. If you like that kind of thing, this place will make you very, very, very happy! They have burgers too, and they looked pretty great, though we have not tried them.

This is an amazing special occasion restaurant and a true gourmet multi-course dining experience created by a celebrity chef (he forages many of the ingredients locally, which is pretty cool). They offer wine pairings as well. It is a small, artfully created production, and they only serve 6 people at each of their two seatings (5:30pm and 8pm) on Wed. - Sat., of each week last we checked. So, advanced reservations are definitely required (reservations open up 3 months in advance of each date). One Yelp reviewer says, “Definitely a place you should experience once in your life.” When we finally tried it, we were blown away by every single course (there were around 12 of them). If you don't want to go for the full experience, you can also reserve a spot in their library area and order a la cart from a tapas-like menu.

Crowley’s is our favorite pizza delivery restaurant. They have great pizza and are very generous with their toppings. Highly recommended ordering in from them one night of your trip if you like pizza! Their white pizza is awesome!

A nearby (12 minutes away) casual farm-to-table pub with a fun, independent local NH vibe. They source their ingredients locally. They have things like burgers, ribs, fish & chips, steak tips, salmon, pizza, and various specials. But, you should probably order the ribs. They cook them for 15 hours and they fall right off the bone! They often have live music. We're also told that they serve a nice breakfast/brunch with specialty Bloody Marys.

This Mexican restaurant in Rochester is a fun place to take the family out to dinner during your trip. The food is pretty good and its reasonably priced. They also offer takeout (but not delivery). If it’s date night or if you are a foodie, check our other recommendation of El Centenario.

Black Trumpet is about 40 minutes away in beautiful historic Portsmouth. It a wonderful spot for solo dining or a date night. Nice ambiance — and the food. Oh, the food! Be sure to have the fried olives and almonds as one of your apps. One would never imagine such a simple thing could be so good! Everything is delicious. It’s small, so get a reservation in advance.

Just 20 minutes away, this is a taproom and pub serving locally sourced food like burgers and brick-oven pizza. The food is pretty good and they offer a nice variety of craft beers and a large bourbon menu. If you go, try the truffle fries bowl! Compared to Tumble Down cafe, this is slightly "nicer" (though by no means fancy) - whereas Tumbeldown has a more down-home local feel with more character.

Eat overlooking The harbor in this go-to Portsmouth seafood spot. They source from local fishermen and serve freshly sushi, sashimi, lobster rolls, chowder, and gourmet entrees like sautéed scallops, seafood scampi, surf and turf, and more. They do not take reservations.

Petey’s is close to an hour away, but is worth the drive if you’d enjoy a fun seafood restaurant on the water known for its lobster rolls and lobster dinners (they catch their own), plus very good fried, broiled, and baked/stuffed seafood dishes made with fresh local fish. They also have things like steak and BBQ chicken for any land lubbers in your group.

We had some guests recommend this. It's a super-casual, summer-only restaurant right on the town dock over Winnipesaukee, and offers summertime staples like burgers, dogs, fried clams, fish and chips, clam chowder, and lobster rolls. They also have an ice cream bar if a cone, sundae, or frappe is on your mind.

This is a general store, but they also have a throw-back diner/soda fountain counter with stools and they serve up breakfast and have a great sandwich and salad menu for lunch. (They serve beer, wine, and bloody Mary’s too). If you want dessert, they have ice cream and frappes. Fun place to stop to shop a bit at grab a bite. We sometimes order sandwiches for takeout too. Good stuff!
