City/town information

Las palmas has the best urban beach in the world, Las Canteras! Over 3km long, each section has its own name. La Puntilla is the north corner and has calm waters and is very picturesque. Playa grande is the widest section and has the most movement. The waters are sheltered by a reef and is very safe for swimming. Playa Chica has no sun loungers but excellent snorkelling. Wrasse and parrotfish are the most common, but you might spot rays or octopus too! Just around the corner is an area known as “La Peña”, it’s a big rock and at low tide you can swim out to the reef and snorkel along it. For a bit of action, La Cicer is the wild area. You can rent a surf board from one of the surf schools and have some fun! If you fancy some Shopping you’ll be spoiled for choice. You have Mesa y Lopez which is famous for the huge El Corte Inglés department store. And the rest of the street is taken up with high street clothing stores. Then there is the Triana shopping district which is a mix of high Street brands and smaller boutiques. It’s one of the best outdoor shopping areas in all of Spain and is right next to the old town so you can stop in for a drink before heading home. Last but not least you have Las Arenas shopping Centre which is conveniently located on Las Cantera beach.

Restaurants

A quirky seafood restaurant with lots of local charm located in El Pajar, right next to Arguineguin. No frills and priced right, there maybe be a bit of a wait for a table on weekends and holidays.

A local family run restaurant located in the church square of Ayagaures. Great Village cuisine with traditional favourites like pimento de padron, papas arrugadas y queso frito. During the week they close at 5, so plan for lunch.

Mama Gata in Castillo de Romeral is another fantastic seafood restaurant. Take a dip in the saltwater swimming Pool’s which are far off the tourist track and then have a nice lunch here. Yeah the seating is pretty and the gofio escaldado in the best I’ve tried.
