Gorgeous homeware and a nice cafe on a cliff-top. Also the start or end of a coastal walk between here and Morfa Nefyn - just park a car at one end and then drive to the other and walk back - takes about 2 hours and the walk is lovely.

The coaster is great fun for all ages and if you are feeling adventurous and have a head for heights the tree-top adventure is also good

So beautiful and you can cycle it, either starting or ending at Dolgellau via Barmouth. Highly recommended. Flat route and takes about 1.5-2 hours each way. We hired bikes in Dolgellau

Love this place and actually want to live there, if it wasn't a beautiful art gallery. It also has a cafe and is situated at the base of a walk up the hill to a headland, or down the hill to Llanbedrog beach (National Trust car park) to walk past beach huts and moored up boats

A town of two halves. Lovely beach, some nice shops, cafes and hotels and then a swathe of slot machines and traditional seaside activities between the two. You can get the train from Criccieth here and we have plotted a trip that involves doing this, giving the kids a bag of change, eating fish & chips, wandering the beach then a couple of pints and home. We haven’t checked train times to see if this is possible – do let us know if you do anything similar.

Lovely bright coloured Italian style village made famous in The Prisoner. Worth the cost of a day ticket to wander around, eat ice cream, head down to the beach and purchase pottery, plus get some lovely photo opportunities.

Has been completed on two occasions by our family with a great sense of achievement. Both times the weather was cold and snowy at the top (guess that’s why it has its name) and bright sunshine at the bottom – go prepared!

Sharing this one not because of the village, which is the birthplace and final resting place of Lloyd George, and there is a museum dedicated to him, but because it is one of our favourite walks from the house. Turn up the hill from our house and take the first left. Walk along this road (its quiet) under mature trees and between fields to Lloyd George’s village. Here you can walk from his grave (set back from the road to your right) down into the forest and along and back beside the river. Gets a bit muddy if there has been rain. Or you can follow the directions above but instead of heading into the forest at Lloyd George’s grave, head into the village keeping the river on your right. At the T-junction turn left heading away from the river and look for a footpath sign on your right. Follow this behind the houses and it brings you to a main road (A497). Cross the road and head into the Aberkin Farm along the farm track, past their holiday cottages and through the fields, following the footpath signs. This will bring you to the river Dwyfor estuary where you will turn left to head back towards Criccieth. The estuary opens out to a path, or dog friendly beach walk – with the sea on your right. This is about 6-7k and relatively easy going – we love it for the mix of vistas!
