Great sushi for a date night. Not very large so it is tougher with kids, and menu isn't cheap, but great quality sushi. Sit at the bar and chat with the local sushi chefs.

My absolute favourite local spot. Stop for a quality coffee and a delicious freshly made pastry. Or sit on their back patio and enjoy a french style lunch-quick, baguette sandwiches, and salads are all great here!

A really great zoo with a twist. Animals are in larger enclosures and you can take a tram around their African exhibit where animals roam freely. Don't worry, you don't actually go into the animal area, so its plenty safe. Fun to see how different animals interact with each other.

You can certainly make a day out of Balboa Park. Its not really just a park, there are all kinds of museums here. Our favorites with the kiddos are the Fleet Science Center, San Diego Air and Space Museum and the Natural History Museum

great park within walking distance. Good playground, lots of green space, outdoor volleyball court, skate park, BBQs and picnic grounds. No public bathrooms. You do have to cross over the train tracks and there isn't a crosswalk unless you go all the way to La Costa or Leucadia, so please use extreme caution

Another great surf spot .5 miles from the unit. There is a long switchback, so it isn't as easy as Ponto if you have a lot of stuff. It only has a couple of stairs though, so it is much easier access with a stroller or wagon compared to Grandview
