FERRY DAY TRIP TO BAMFIELD - FULL DAY - Book a reservation on the MV Lady Rose via Lady Rose Marine Services. 5425 Argyle Street Port Alberni, B.C. (Next to Alberni Harbour Quay in south Port Alberni) 1-250-723-8313 or toll free 1-800-663-7192. 8am sailing to Barkley Sound. Please plan on being in Port Alberni the evening before to get to the dock well before 8:00 am departure. The MV Frances Barkley is a 200-passenger and cargo vessel based in Port Alberni that serves the communities of Barkley Sound and the Broken Group Islands on the west coast of Vancouver island BC. Ports of call include Bamfield, Ucluelet, Kildonan, and Sechart. This passenger, mail and freight service has been a part of the West Coast for over 60 years. The Frances Barkley and the Lady Rose have a relaxed, friendly atmosphere rather reminiscent of yesteryear. The heritage vessel Lady Rose can carry up to 100 passengers and 25 tons of cargo. She was originally christened “Lady Sylvia” at her 1937 launching at Pointhouse Shipyard in Glasgow, Scotland. Although not the last vessel acquired by the Union Steamship Company, she was the last commissioned to be built for them. Designed for the sheltered coastal waters of British Columbia, this stocky little vessel soon proved capable of much more, becoming the first diesel powered vessel to cross the Atlantic driven by a single propeller. The Lady Rose was temporarily withdrawn from service during the summer of 2009. Join the crew on the Frances Barkley for a day trip down the Alberni Inlet to Barkley Sound, and have a truly memorable experience. In the course of a day’s trip the packet freighter drops mail, groceries, supplies and up to 100 passengers along the way at float homes and the Sechart Whaling Station – in the same manner as when the service started on the B.C. Coast over 60 years ago.

Impressive waterfalls cascade down a rocky gorge in a beautiful forested setting bordered by steep mountain peaks at this park, one of the most beautiful parks on central Vancouver Island. The falls, lake swimming, shaded riverside trails and picnic facilities make Little Qualicum Falls a very popular family recreation destination. A number of walking trails are available in and around the park, offering picturesque views of the river and providing access to the upper and lower falls. Cameron Lake is an ideal spot for swimming and fishing, as well as sail boarding, due to a wind funnel created by the surrounding mountains. The Cameron Lake and Beaufort day-use areas are located 10 minutes west of the campground on Highway 4.

Beautiful walking trail - well preserved site with many local people there too. The Trail There is very little to mark the entrance other than a small gravel path that leads into the trees. After following this path into the trees there is a small handmade, wooden sign nailed to one of the trees with ‘Hole in the Wall’ painted onto it. After a few minutes of walking the path emerges from the trees and into a clearing where the path splits in two. Take the right hand path, which is much more wide open than the beginning of the trail. The gravel track is very well defined and although there are many little paths that split off along the way, you just need to stay on the main trail.
