Like many small towns and villages along the South Wales coast, Burry Port and Pembrey have their roots in heavy industry. Burry Port Harbour was built in the 1830’s to ship coal from the Gwendraeth Valley. Tinplate, copper, silver and lead works grew up alongside. Until 1965, a munitions works produced TNT and ammonium nitrate in the relative safety of the dunes of neighbouring Pembrey Burrows. Not that you’d be aware of this today, mind, as there’s little trace remaining of any of this activity. Pembrey Burrows is now home to one of Wales’ most popular attractions, the spectacular Pembrey Country Park and Beach. The Millennium Coastal Path, a 13-mile traffic free walkway and cycleway runs from Bynea in the east right through Burry Port, before reaching its end in Pembrey. Read on to discover how this area is about much more than its industrial heritage. - Blasus Pizza, Crazie Crepes Cafe, Harbour Light Tearoom, Yacht Club all situated around Burry Port harbour and 5 minutes waking distance from house.

Come and try Wales longest Toboggan ride at Ski Pembrey. The journey takes you to the top of the ski slope for you to take in the magnificent views of the Park before you enjoy an exhilarating ride as you travel down through the trees. Yr Orsaf fully licenced restaurant located within the beautiful Pembrey Country Park, and a short walk from the stunning 8 mile stretch of Cefn Sidan Beach. Cefn Sidan Beach Hut is open at the weekend from 11am during high season and every day during summer school holidays (weather dependant) where you will find many of your beach favourites like ice creams, lollipops, hot & cold drinks and snack. Pembrey Circuit is the home of Welsh motorsport, and you can get on track by booking one of the three driving experiences they offer there. The 1.46-mile per lap circuit has been driven by the greatest; Formula One teams including McLaren and Williams have all tested here. The circuit’s lap record – albeit unofficial – was set by Ayrton Senna. The circuit also has a busy calendar of race meetings throughout the year, including truck, car and bike racing and spectators can see large sections of the circuit from almost all the viewing areas.

Millennium Coastal Park, Llanelli (Sustrans 4) 13 miles approx. A superb mostly flat, well surfaced and easily accessible coastal traffic free route that follows the stunning Carmarthenshire coast, along the route of the Wales Coast Path for a distance of approximately 13miles approx. from Bynea in the East to Pembrey Country Park in the West. There is so much to see and do along the way, with wildlife, places of interest, viewpoints and refreshment stops, so why not take your time and enjoy the experience to the full. You start at Bynea car park, from here you cycle across a bridge and onto the Millennium Coastal Park, follow the route as it passes along the Loughor Estuary, a site of international environmental importance, keep an eye out for birdlife that frequents the estuary, the views are spectacular as the path overlooks the Gower Peninsular. Continue along the path and you’ll reach the Wetlands Centre, a bird sanctuary where you can view and learn about the various birds that live along the coast, they even have a flock of Pink Flamingos! Continue along the coast until you reach St. Elli's Bay Bistro & Brasserie at North Dock, with toilets and ample parking. Continue along the coast until you reach Pwll, the Pavilion is great for tea, and on further to Burry Port Harbour, a picturesque stop. Continue around the harbour and on to Pembrey Country Park, where you can try skiing on the dry ski slope, tobogganing or walk in the woods. Cefn Sidan beach is over eight miles long and a great place to walk or build sandcastles.

The area has since been updated, with the opening of the Millennium Coastal Park and regeneration of the coastal area of Llanelli. The town has a large Welsh-speaking community and a proud cultural, religious and sporting heritage. The museum’s ‘Llanelli Story’ gallery explores the people and events that shaped this extraordinary town’s identity. Parc Howard was built in 1885 by the Buckleys, a family of successful brewers. The house and a founding collection was subsequently gifted to the town in 1912 as a public museum by Sir Stafford-Howard and Lady Stepney to mark the occasion of their first wedding anniversary. Today the museum is home to the largest public collection of Llanelli pottery and a fine art collection with highlights by J D Innes, Hubert von Herkomer, Christopher Williams, and Edward Morland Lewis. It also includes fascinating curiosities such as the Stepney Spare Wheel, invented and made in Llanelli from 1904 for early cars and sold globally where spare tyres are still sometimes still referred to as ‘stepneys’.

Mumbles marks the start of the Gower Peninsula's coastline. It is a popular Swansea neighbourhood. One of Dylan Thomas' many stamping grounds, as well as a source of world-class ice cream. There's a lighthouse that was built in 1794, as well as a Victorian pier. Oystermouth Castle, perched on a hilltop with spectacular views of the sea, is also well worth a visit. Mumbles has a special place in the hearts of both visitors and locals. People from outside Wales may not have heard of it, but once there, they will find it unforgettable. If you feel the urge for a bit of retail therapy, Mumbles will suit perfectly. Mumbles marks the start of the Gower Peninsula's coastline. It is a popular Swansea neighbourhood. One of Dylan Thomas' many stamping grounds, as well as a source of world-class ice cream. There's a lighthouse that was built in 1794, as well as a Victorian pier. Oystermouth Castle, perched on a hilltop with spectacular views of the sea, is also well worth a visit.
