Enjoy a quintessential Cape Cod town that is 1 hour and 10 minutes from Boston!
There are several attractions in Sandwich, including Heritage Museums and Gardens, the Wing Fort House, the Sandwich Glass Museum, the Thornton Burgess Museum, Hoxie House (the oldest house on Cape Cod), the Daniel Webster Inn, the Dexter Grist Mill (the oldest mill on Cape Cod), the Sandwich Friends (Quaker) Meetinghouse (the oldest in North America), and Shawme Lake. Sandwich is home to numerous art galleries, as well as rare book and antique stores. Many of these attractions are found within the Town Hall Square Historic District and Jarvesville Historic District within the town. Sandwich is also home to a major portion of Otis Air National Guard Base, including half the land that the runways are on.
Boardwalk in Sandwich
The Sandwich boardwalk is located in downtown and leads to the Town Beach on Cape Cod Bay. It is a popular tourist attraction and was elected by National Geographic in July 2010 as one of the top ten boardwalks in the United States. It is 1,350 feet long, from Scorton Creek to the Cape Cod Canal, and crossing the Creek Mill and the marsh.

The visitor center is one of the best free things to do in Sandwich and if you’re traveling with kids you should definitely make a stop here. It’s a lot bigger than it looks from the outside and there are a lot of interactive displays and exhibits. There’s even a retired 40-foot US Army Corps of Engineers patrol boat that you can climb into!

It’s a lot bigger than it looks from the outside and there are a lot of interactive displays and exhibits. Sandwich has a very old history of making glass. So why not learn more about how they do it and take home a piece of memoriabilia. It's truly amazing to watch. Glass blowing presentations are every hour on the hour.

Another of the fun things to do is to take a walk along the Sandwich Boardwalk. It crosses over Mill Creek and ends at Town Neck Beach. It’s not a long walk and the views of the marsh and beach are really nice. It’s also a good place to bird watch. There is a small parking lot on Wood Ave that is closer to the beach itself, but we prefer the parking lot on Boardwalk Road as it’s where the boardwalk starts.
