This trail is heavily used, but for good reason. The payoff for this easy 2.5 mile trail is a gorgeous alpine lake framed by the sharp mountain peaks Glacier is famous for. If time allows, explore the Trail of the Cedars area preceding the trail head. During the high season parking here is extremely limited, consider taking the shuttle from the Apgar Visitor Center.
Choose your own adventure with this trail that splits into three different destinations. You can hike to Sperry Chalet, Snyder Lake, or Mt. Brown Lookout. The trail begins at Sperry Trailhead across from Lake McDonald Lodge and is rated as moderate. Mt. Brown Lookout is the most challenging of the three as it goes to a fire lookout at the very top of the mountain.

The trail begins at Sperry Trailhead across from Lake McDonald Lodge and is rated as moderate. Mt. Brown Lookout is the most challenging of the three as it goes to a fire lookout at the very top of the mountain.

Another popular choice among visitors, parking can be difficult but not as bad as Logan Pass or Avalanche Lake. The trail begins at Swiftcurrent Pass trailhead. Allow 5-6 hours, plus more if you’d like to go for a dip in this glacial lake.

Another popular choice among visitors, parking can be difficult but not as bad as Logan Pass or Avalanche Lake. The trail begins at Swiftcurrent Pass trailhead. Allow 5-6 hours, plus more if you’d like to go for a dip in this glacial lake.
From the Swiftcurrent picnic area, hike 3.5 miles to Grinnell Lake or take a right at the well-marked fork up the mountain to Grinnell Glacier for a total of 5.5 miles one way. One of the few actual remaining glaciers, Grinnell becomes a spectacular waterfall as it melts and creates the bright blue color of the lake. A great full day option, or buy a ticket for the boat from the boat landing near Many Glacier Lodge to shave off the first 2.5 miles.
