223 Waimaire is a quaint bach just 200m from one of the safest and most beautiful beaches in the Coromandel and only 3 hours from Auckland by car. Matarangi is a lovely destination which has access to walks and safe cycle paths through native forests next to the ocean. It has a small shopping centre and is only 20 minutes from either Whitianga or Coromandel town. It has a stunning 18 hole golf course 5 minutes away and there are 2 good restaurants, also between 5 and 10 minutes away. It is equally beautiful in summer, when swimming and watersports are appealing or winter, when it's much quieter and very cosy in front of the log fire.

Situated on the crest of the Coromandel ranges on the 309 road. Mahakirau Forest Estate comprises almost 600 ha of native forest. Each site is convenated by QEII National Trust who describe Mahakirau "outstanding for it's ecology and wildlife value with brown kiwi, kaka, Hochsetetter's and Archey's frogs all present".
