It is a beautiful alpine lake at 2100m reachable by a demanding hike from Papingo. It takes around 3h from the village to the Astraka refuge and another 1.30h to the lake. The route to the lake is a bit easier than to the refuge. As it is a rather long walk for one day it is advisable to stay at the refuge overnight. The view at each point of the climbing is stunning

The lake is located at an altitude of 2100 meters, on Mount Tymfi and with a depth not exceeding 2 meters owes its creation to the last glaciers 10,000 years ago. A unique alpine landscape with permanent water. You will arrive after 4 hours of hiking from Mikro Papigo.

Βρίσκεται σε υψόμετρο 2.050 μ. στον ορεινό όγκο της Τύμφης, μεταξύ του ποταμού Αώου και του παραπόταμού του Βοϊδομάτη, στην προστατευόμενη περιοχή της Βόρειας Πίνδου, ΒΔ της ψηλότερης κορυφής Γκαμήλα (2.497 μ.). Έχει ελλειψοειδές σχήμα, έκταση περίπου 5 στρέμματα και βρίσκεται δίπλα στον γκρεμό, πάνω από τον Αώο ποταμό. Το τοπίο γύρω από την λίμνη, γυμνό, αλλά ταυτόχρονα εντυπωσιακό, σπάνιας ομορφιάς, με καταπληκτική πανοραμική θέα των κορφών του βουνού.
