In the old town of Rethymno a Venetian mansion has opened its halls and houses the historical and folklore museum of the city. The Venetian building of the Foundation, a historical monument of the 17th century, offers the ideal space for the presentation of its collections while at the same time the operation of the Museum contributes to the protection of the monument. In his rooms are presented his collections of textiles, embroidery, lace, ceramics, baskets, as well as the traditional professions of coppersmith, saddler, horseman etc. The ground floor houses periodic exhibitions and educational programs. In the back and the central courtyard, the orchard with the oranges, the well and the cistern with the stone boat are preserved to this day. There are such beautiful and large gardens in many houses of the old town of Rethymnon, invisible from the street.

The Historical and Folklore Museum of Rethymno is housed in a 17th century Venetian mansion. The museum is hosted in an ideal environment for the exhibition of collections and the historical building of the mansion is constantly restored and preserved. The exhibition spaces (Permanent collection) cover (5) five halls and present items of traditional handicraft work and folklore art. The Historical and Folklore Museum of Rethymno aims to become a contemporary research and educational center for the preservation of the Cretan Folklore culture in cooperation with international organizations and institutions.

The museum is housed in a Venetian building of the 17th century. Visitors are able to see: weavings, embroidery, lace, spinning compositions, costumes, pottery objects, agricultural and traditional occupations tools (coppersmith, farrier, cutler, cobbler), historical documents, maps, photographs, banners, coins, weapons and books.
